Boruto has been all about getting stronger. Whether it is for the original characters or the newer ones, each and every character has a purpose to fulfill. Boruto’s awakening of his karma, Himawari’s connection with Kurama, and Sarada’s possible stance in carrying her father’s legacy; all of which combine to create a story of growth and surpassing what the past set for them.

There are many who gained new powers but also those who lost them. Kakashi being one of them. Naruto Shippuden saw the end of his Sharingan. His and Obito’s battle with Kaguya led to a tragic sacrifice that took away Kakashi’s Sharingan in the process. While it was long since lost, that is not to say that it cannot be gained again.
Kakashi’s Lost Sharingan
Kakashi’s Sharingan was always linked to Obito. In his desperate times, he gained it, and with his sacrifice, Kakashi lost it as well. This lost Sharingan can also come back. As proposed in a theory by @NCHammer23 on YouTube, Kakashi still has the opportunity open for him to gain it back.

He doesn’t have to do much, considering that there is an entire laboratory in Sasuke’s access. Obito’s laboratory is an entire playing field of Sharingan eyes. Shelves filled with eyes he collected through mysterious means waiting to be looked at. While the fate of the place is unknown despite Sasuke having destroyed a part of it, the lab was comparatively massive. Since he knows the location, he could just lead Kakashi to the place.
All Kakashi has to do is pick an eye out for himself and regain his Sharingan. That is to say, Sasuke also lost his Rinnegan in Boruto. So whether or not he still has access to the laboratory is still a mystery. However, he chose to live without an arm to atone for his sins. So it could be more of an obligation to himself than a necessity.
A Guardian Angel for Boruto: Two Blue Vortex
The events of Boruto: Two Blue Vortex are slowly setting aside the main characters of Naruto and making way for the younger characters. Naruto is nowhere to be seen, having been sealed away. Earlier it was Sasuke who proved to be a mentor-like figure for everyone, being the elder to take care of everything when things go awry.

Hidari taking over Sasuke’s body, turning him into a tree, and slowly draining his Chakra has put him in a difficult position, pulling away from his role in Boruto: Two Blue Vortex. With both Naruto and Sasuke away, one character has the perfect opportunity to fill in the gaping hole that is left in the form of a guardian angel for Konoha; Kakashi Hatake.
Kakashi, were he to regain his Sharingan, would be able to act as a mentor-like figure with protective abilities and battle experience. This would help him watch over the rest of the characters as well.
Naruto is available to watch on Netflix and Boruto: Two Blue Vortex can be read on Viz Media.
