Kakashi Hatake is one of the most popular characters in the Naruto verse. He was the son of the White Fang of the Leaf, Sakumo Hatake; a student of the Fourth Hokage, Minato Namikaze; sensei of the Seventh Hokage, Naruto Uzumaki, and his most famous identity was his Sharingan. With his Sharingan, he was able to copy any ninjutsu he saw.
Due to this, he came to be known as the Copy Ninja and could use more than a thousand jutsu. Even though he was known throughout the ninja world, no one knew who his mother was. Sakumo Hatake died pretty early, and Kakashi stayed all alone. One of the fan theories suggested that his mother belonged to the Kirigakure, and so he always hid his face as a homage to her.

Kakashi Hatake’s has been a hot topic of discussion for the Naruto fans, especially since he always hides his face behind a mask. It was at the very end that Masashi Kishimoto decided to reveal his face to the world, and the wait was worth it. But people often do not understand why he hid his face since his father kept his face open. One fan theory suggests it was a way to pay homage to his mother, who was from Kirigakure.

Most of the shinobi from Kirigakure have sharp teeth, and some of them even hide their faces. So, Kakashi might always hide his face to keep his sharp teeth a secret. When Team 7 went to fight Zabuza and Haku, the Copy Ninja was pretty comfortable using Zabuza’s sword. It further strengthens the theory since the Seven Swordsmen were from Kirigakure, and having those genes helped Kakashi use the sword easily.
His mother might have died before him, or Sakumo Hatake might had a momentary relationship with a kunoichi from Kirigakure. Even Kakashi was never seen to talk about his mother. If she was dead, he might have at least paid her grave a visit like Obito and Rin’s grave. It could also be possible that he only knew about her through his father and never actually met her. So, to hide the fact from the world he put on a mask, especially after his father was wrongly accused and committed suicide.
Kakashi Hatake Has Multiple Lineage Theories
Since there is no proof about Kakashi’s mother, there are multiple theories on who could he be related to. Apart from the Kirigakure theory, many believe him to wholly belong to Konohagakure. His mother might have been from the Akimichi clan due to his ability to summon dogs and have sensitive nose. Every clan has its special abilities, and the Akimichi clan’s specialty is creating a life-long bond with a canine. They do everything together, including fighting.
Kakashi’s mother is most likely to stay hidden forever since Masashi Kishimoto never revealed her. While the Akimichi theory is another strong theory about Kakashi’s lineage, the Kirigakure theory seems more viable. If she was from Konohagakure, he would not have hid his face. It seems that his mother died, but she could have been alive. Kakashi did not want to cause her any trouble, so he kept his lineage a secret.
The Copy Ninja is truly one of a kind. He can go to any extent to protect his close ones. Even though he had a rough childhood, he never lost faith. But the fans are on the verge of losing faith after failing to discover his mother after so many years. There is next to no chance of Masashi Kishimoto revealing her in the current storyline. The Kirigakure theory was the closest to the solution, but without official confirmation, it will always remain a fan theory.
