A lot seems to be happening with MCU’s Spider-Man 3 right now. After the casting of Jamie Foxx’s Electro and Benedict Cumberbatch’s Doctor Strange, Alfred Molina is officially set to reprise his role as Doctor Octopus from Sam Raimi’s Spider-Man 2. Rumors of his involvement began a couple weeks ago. And now, The Hollywood Reporter has given us the official confirmation for his involvement in the project.

Remember when we broke the news of Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield’s return in Spider-Man 3? That seems to be coming true day by day. We are pretty certain that Max Dillon, Otto Octavius, and Stephen Strange will bring in some sort of a multiverse angle. That could set up the team up of the previous two Spider-Men with Tom Holland’s Spider-Man in the MCU.

Back when Jamie Foxx’s casting was announced, he confirmed that his version of Electro will be new, and definitely not blue! So, if Electro is supposed to get a makeover similar to J. Jonah Jameson, the it is obvious that Doc Ock will get a new look as well. It has to be a new version of the character since the one from Raimi’s Spider-Man 2 seemingly perished.

It’s quite unbelievable and overwhelming to see the return of Alfred Molina all of a sudden. We originally presumed that the likes of Kraven and Scorpion might be the main villains of Spider-Man 3. But apparently those set ups seem to have been put aside in favor of a blast from the past. It will be interesting to see the kind of role that Doc Ock is going to play in Spider-Man 3. We hope that he, and Electro will survive the events of Spider-Man 3, so that they could go on to join the Sinister Six in the fourth Spider-Man movie of the MCU.

Spider-Man 3 is set to arrive on December 17, 2021. Until then, let’s wait and see whether any other villains will also be returning in the film. If Jake Gyllenhaal’s Mysterio also returns, then we’d have three villains that seemingly died in the second films of three different Spider-Man franchises, coming together. It’ll be a legendary team up! The same could be said for Tom Holland, Andrew Garfield and Tobey Maguire.
