Universal Studios Once Planned for Mummy 4
Spanning from 1999 to 2008, Brendan Fraser and Rachel Weisz’s The Mummy franchise has been entertaining audiences with thrilling adventures and captivating storylines. So much so that after the release of the third installment, fans began hoping for a fourth and fifth sequel to hit the theatres. But unfortunately, it never happened.
However, on a recent note, after Brendan Fraser’s Oscar win, the actor was rumored to return for Mummy 4 alongside Rachel Weisz. Previously, as Universal Studios revealed their plans to make a fourth installment by the name of The Mummy: Rise of the Aztec, fans began hoping for the same. Social media sites began flooding with rumors of the iconic duo hitting the silver screen all over again.
The alleged storyline suggested that Brendan Fraser’s Rick O’Connell will be traveling to South America, in search of his missing son Alex O’Connell, who was lining up to carry the franchise forward. The movie was supposed to bring back John Hannah, and star Antonio Banderas as the main villain.
Brendan Fraser and Rachel Weisz’s Heroic Return in Artwork
In an attempt to make the rumors even more strong, a supposed poster artwork appeared online via The Direct, with a revamped name The Mummy: Fountain of the Persian Knights, for the fourth installment. Suggesting that the movie will hit the theatres in 2025, the alleged poster showcased Brendan Fraser and Rachel Weisz making a heroic return to the franchise.
Followed by the fake poster, a supposed logline appeared that narrated the story for Mummy 4, taking Rick O’Connell on a frantic search for his son.
“Three years after their son went missing and presumed lost on a perilous quest for the legendary fountain, a glimmer of hope emerges. Rick discovers that their son may be alive, held captive by malevolent forces. Join Universal Pictures in 2025 for a gripping tale of family, danger, and the unyielding pursuit of hope.”
Although Rachel Weisz had left the franchise after the second installment with Maria Bello taking over her role as Rick’s wife Evelyn Carnahan O’Connell, fans expressed their desire to witness the OG actress in the role. But neither Brendan Fraser nor Weisz revealed anything about Mummy 4. Instead, Bello previously told MTV via Digital Spy, “I don’t know when, but it’s going. [There will] absolutely be The Mummy 4,”.
Solidifying the rumors even more and sparking hope among fans, Brendan Fraser told Variety, that he is “open” to revisit the role that launched him to stardom. Unfortunately, despite such headlines and alleged artworks, Universal Studios is far away from developing a fourth film. But, although they left the franchise at rest with no signs of Mummy 4, we believe anything is possible in this day and age.
