WWE 2K24 hasn’t been off to the best of releases, with those who pre-ordered the Deluxe Edition of the game reporting a plethora of bugs and glitches hampering the experience. The game was also reportedly crashing, making it unplayable for several players. Even before the game’s early-access release, it was marred with off-ring controversies.
Vince McMahon and Brock Lesnar were both part of a controversy surrounding WWE, leading to Lesnar being removed from the 40th Anniversary Edition of the game. McMahon also seems to be blurred out in the game’s IRL cutscenes, although not completely.
Vince McMahon Appears Unblurred in Exclusive IRL Clips Despite Controversies
The release of this year’s WWE 2K24 was marred by controversies outside the ring after a former WWE employee filed a lawsuit against McMahon, who was accused of being involved in sexual assault and sex trafficking.
Brock Lesnar was also involved in the allegations leading to his being removed from the game. Players can still play as Lesnar in the Showcase Mode, in which they can relive classical matches from WWE’s history. It’s in the Showcase Mode that McMahon is also available, unblurred, while he’s mostly blurred or hidden in other IRL clips.
IRL clips are shown in between or after Showcase matches once players complete a set of objectives. For instance, one of the clips showcases the build-up to Becky Lynch being replaced by Charlotte Flair at Wrestlemania 35.
The entire build-up is headed by McMahon getting involved and making the announcement that Flair will replace Lynch. Instead, the clip now shows McMahon’s face blurred out and the voiceover mentioning WWE making the replacement and cutting out his voice.
However, McMahon is not blurred out in the entire game, as he does make an uncensored appearance in another IRL clip of a Showcase match between Stone Cold and The Rock from Wrestlemania 17. Players reportedly do have the option to end Showcase Mode matches without seeing the IRL clips.
Players Cannot Choose Lesnar and McMahon as Playable Characters in WWE 2K24
While it’s understandable that 2K had little time to make these changes to the game, one of the major ones includes the two being blocked from being chosen as playable characters. Lesnar is still playable in one of the Showcase Mode matches from Wrestlemania 30, in which Lesnar famously ended The Undertaker’s Wrestlemania streak by defeating him in the event.
McMahon has no such playable matches in the popular Showcase Mode, so he remains blocked from being selected as a playable character. McMahon resigned from WWE’s parent company, TKO Group Holdings, following the allegations while also denying all of them. McMahon has been known for building and being the face of WWE ever since he took over the reins back in 1982.
The lawsuit was filed by former WWE employee Janel Grant, who is seeking undisclosed charges and has also requested the court void a $3 million NDA she had signed with WWE, for which Grant alleged she received only $1 million.
