The film surpassed expectations, which led it to get a standing ovation from the audience members, truly the mark of something unique and amazing. But getting to this point was a road filled with pain and suffering since the lead actor and director had to work through several injuries, including broken bones, to turn his vision into a reality.

While everyone might be familiar with the greatness that cinema has to offer to a film star or a filmmaker who puts their heart and soul into their creation, only a few realize the toll it extracts on them for that recognition and fame. British actor Dev Patel is the newest star on the block who has gone through the wringer to make his directorial debut film Monkey Man the success that it is now.

Since they were trying to create something exceptional, they had to go above and beyond with everything, which naturally included the beautiful action and fight sequences. But in doing so, the Slumdog Millionaire star had several injuries that brought him to the breaking point. 

From a broken foot that the star got in an accident with a stuntman to a torn shoulder and a broken hand while shooting a fight scene with his co-star Sikander Kher, not to mention, a severe eye infection shooting a scene where he had to crawl on a bathroom floor, the star went to hell and back to make this film a success.

These were just the physical obstacles that the production had to go through several times since the idea was brought to life, there had been major delays that brought the production down. From the COVID-19 restrictions to the shifting of locations from India to Indonesia, it was proving harder and harder for this film to stay afloat. 

But in the end, it survived, and once the theatrical distribution rights were acquired by Universal Pictures, the film became the new action poster boy on the block with some of the most rave reviews in recent times.

How Monkey Man Performed In the Eyes Of The Public

As soon as producer Jordan Peele got the chance to witness this film for himself, he was convinced that it needed a theatrical release, which is why he convinced Universal to give one to it. 

And now, that decision has proven to be the golden goose as during the recent premiere of Monkey Man at the SXSW Film Festival, the audience gave a two-minute standing ovation to Patel for his exceptional performance as well as execution and direction of the project, which when released globally, might make it a commercial success on top of the critical success that it has already proven to be.

At the moment, the film has a staggering 100% Fresh rating on Rotten Tomatoes, which is nothing to scoff at.
