Marvel’s Spider-Man was released in 2018. It has given a new life to the franchise since Amazing Spider-Man 2. Marvel’s Spider-Man was a much-anticipated game before its release and it rightfully delivered everything that the fans had hoped for. Insomniac Games developed yet another PlayStation-exclusive game that became an all-time great.
But an aspect of this particular gaming franchise has always been in question. Should there be fall damage in Spidey games? With Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 almost knocking on the door, fans are eager to know this answer. Yuri Lowenthal, the voice of Marvel’s Spider-Man games, has shared some insights on this. People were excited to hear what the voice actor had to say.
Yuri Lowenthal On Fall Damage
Yuri Lowenthal has been very clear with his answer on fall damage in Spider-Man games. His career as the voice actor of Spidey in video games is nothing short of being glorious. During his interview with IGN, he was asked “Should Spider-Man take fall damage in the games?” Yuri Lowenthal was quick to answer. He clearly said, “No!” He continued, ”He’s Spider-Man. I think it would keep people from doing all the fun, swingy, jumpy things that they do.” Yuri Lowenthal is clearly on the side of the fans who believe that fall damage should be kept off while playing the Spider-Man game.
As witty as he is, Yuri Lowenthal also added a bit of a comment before ending his answer. He said, “But it is a little weird that he can fall from great heights, hit the ground, and just sort of roll out of it [laughing].” He gave everyone a reality check that even though a video game should be played in its own way, fall damage does happen in real life.
Fall Damage Controversy In Marvel’s Spider-Man 2
Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 is set to launch on 20 October 2023. There has already been a buzz surrounding the game. It will feature Peter Parker and Miles Morales, taking on the villains together. One of the most unique features of the game is that users can toggle between fall damage. This has given birth to the controversy of whether it should be kept on or not.
The first few Spider-Man games had fall damage. From Web of Shadows and so on, the fall damage was switched off. In the upcoming webslinger game, the users will have a choice for the first time. The decision completely depends on the users.
But it becomes a little weird when the hero jumps off from the 30 storied building and lands on the ground without a single scratch on the body. Jumping from a 3 storied building can kill a person but this is outrageous. Everyone knows that it is Spider-Man but there should be at least a bit of damage. Even though Yuri Lowenthal believes that Spidey should be free of fall damage, having no reaction after falling from great heights is still a weird sensation for him.
