Unfortunately, the studio was shut down before players could get more information about the game they were working on. When Deviation Games was working on the game, they revealed some images that indicated that the game was space-themed. Rumors suggest that the Call of Duty-like game was delayed, but Deviation Games was dissolved before they could reveal it.

Before Deviation Games‘ termination, the studio was working on a PlayStation exclusive game that was announced in 2021. The founders, Jason Blundell and Dave Anthony, revealed that Deviation Games is working on a new IP that was very early in development.

At the time, Anthony explained that they were working on “a huge, content-rich game with a focus on a lot of action and a lot of energy,” but before fans could get more information about the game, the studio was shut down.

Recently, Deviation Games became a hot topic on social media as fans pointed out how they received massive funding without even revealing a video game. Shortly after that, an X post revealed that the game was a space-themed Call of Duty-like game.

Why Was Deviation Games Shut Down?

Earlier this year, Deviation Games’ Chief HR & Operations Officer, Kriste Stull, announced the closure of Deviation Games on LinkedIn. Stull also revealed that they are hosting a networking event for its employees. The sudden closure of the studio was shocking, and the game they were working on was shelved forever.

Many theories on social media claim that the studio was shut down due to the creative differences between Deviation Games and PlayStation. Without PlayStation’s funding, it was very difficult to keep the studio afloat.

The closure wasn’t exactly surprising for many, as one of the co-founders, Jason Blundell, left the studios in September 2022. It is no secret that many industry giants laid off their employees as a part of their cost-cutting plans.

Deviation Games was certainly filled with great minds who had worked on exceptional video games in the past, but unfortunately, we never got to see the end product. Fans can only hope that in the future, Sony will pick up this idea once again and work with another studio to finish what Deviation Games started.
