Recently, a mod called H2 was about to be released for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare Remastered (2016), aiming to restore that classic multiplayer experience. But just as the excitement was reaching its peak, Activision Blizzard stepped in and shut it down, leading to massive outrage all across social media.

The H2 mod was a labour of love from the community, designed to bring back the beloved multiplayer experience of the original Modern Warfare 2. It recreated all the original maps and even included additional ones, ported over to Modern Warfare Remastered

The mod also introduced new features like a fresh progression system, dynamic camos, and more, making it a big hit among fans. Even more so since the servers of the original 2009 game are not in good shape, and the game never received a multiplayer remaster, only the campaign.

All of the maps were remade as part of last year’s Modern Warfare 3, but fans wanted a remaster of the old game with the same feel, and not that of the newer games in the series.

The excitement was extremely high, with sales of Modern Warfare Remastered skyrocketing on Steam and its player count reaching heights not seen since its release.

However, the joy was short-lived. Just a day before the mod was set to be released to the public, the development team behind H2 just recently broke the news that Activision Blizzard had sent a cease-and-desist letter, effectively shutting down the project.

Despite the H2 mod boosting sales for Modern Warfare Remastered, many hoped Activision would be more lenient this time around, but rather it waited till just a day before release, even though this mod has been in development for several years.

The decision to shut down the H2 mod has left fans extremely furious. Social media has been flooded with comments from gamers expressing their anger and disappointment, calling out Activision Blizzard for their actions

Many are accusing the company of being scumbags and insanely evil, believing that they intentionally let the mod gain traction just to benefit from the sales spike before pulling the plug.

The H2 mod was more than just a nostalgia trip; it was meant to be a project that showcased the passion and dedication of the Call of Duty community. It offered a fresh take on a classic experience, with new maps and features that could have kept players engaged for years.

But with its sudden shutdown, fans are left wondering if they’ll ever get to see a proper remaster of Modern Warfare 2’s multiplayer.

While Activision Blizzard may have had legal grounds to shut down the H2 mod, the way it handled the mod was definitely questionable, and the company’s dwindling reputation continues to get worse.
