Among the many new features brought about in last year’s Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 (MW3), the Zombie mode launched with one of the biggest maps, giving fans a fresh experience. The title was released on November 10, 2023 to a mixed/negative reception.

The main campaign was highly criticized for being far too short, but the Zombie and multiplayer modes were fairly well received. However, fans who were looking forward to added content in the Zombie mode are in for bad news as Treyarch has asked players not to expect new content.

Treyarch Is Not Planning to Update Call of Duty MW3 Zombies

Barely three months since Modern Warfare 3 launched, the game’s Zombies mode could already be abandoned for good. A well-known Call of Duty content creator, Dalek JD posted on his X account where he mentioned the decision taken by Treyarch at the Season 2 Creators Call.

The developers are said to have confirmed that there “are NO plans for any new enemy types or new perks to come to Modern Warfare Zombies at any point.” This update is sure to make several fans who were looking forward to more content rather unhappy.

The fact that the announcement mentioned no new enemies or new perks “at any point” also cancels out any hope for a change of decision in the future. That said, the Season 2 Patch Notes did mention new content coming to the Zombies mode.

Upcoming Zombies Update Could be the Last

Treyarch will reportedly bring a new Black Ops title this year with a new Zombies mode included.

The next big update coming to Modern Warfare 3 Zombies mode includes “new Story Mission, Dark Aether Rift, Schematics, and more coming in-season during Season 2.” The Dark Aether story is set to give gamers a new “anomaly in the Exclusion Zone” to investigate.

The Second Rift will see players encounter a “new and terrifying Rift” in the largest infested Stronghold ever. There will also be new Zombie challenges and “gather new Schematics” to assist with player progress. Finally, players will also face off against Warlord Keres by breaching her fortress.

With the announcement made by Treyarch, there’s a good chance the latest updates could be the last for Zombies. One of the fans who responded to Dalek stated that developing the mode makes no sense now. A similar sentiment was echoed by another fan as well, who asked what the whole point of it was.

Treyarch is now reportedly working on this year’s installment of a Call of Duty title that’s based on the Gulf War. This year’s Call of Duty title is said to be a Black Ops edition and will supposedly include a Zombie mode of its own.
