If you weren’t a fan of Modern Warfare 3’s open-world missions within its campaign, then there is bad news ahead for Call of Duty Black Ops Gulf War. The next game in the franchise looks to be following the trend and will feature missions akin to an entire open-world map.
At the moment, we do not know to what extent there will be linear-based missions within this open-world or if there will be separate missions included within this format, but either way, the gaming community is unsure about the idea.
Call of Duty Black Ops Gulf War Could Be Bringing a Whole New Campaign Experience to Gamers
One of the main worries the gaming community will have is the risk of getting a game, just like Modern Warfare 3, which re-uses assets for an expedient release. Luckily, according to Insider Gaming, this won’t be the case, as Gulf War will be developed from the ground up into a whole new title rather than re-using assets.
So far, the only information that has been released regarding the future campaign is the fact that it will have an open-world map similar in size to Far Cry. Players will be able to explore this map with their squad while using vehicles and a fast travel system to move around at a quick pace.
At the moment, the main concern is how missions will be available in this open world, how players will interact within it, and whether it will work with a linear story that is standard for Call of Duty.
If Gulf War does utilize an open-world setting, but with certain linear missions dotted around the map, there is potential for it to be quite boring and tedious as players will have to travel a long distance to move from mission to mission. Currently, we do not know if there are side missions, public events, or exploration objectives within this open world, as the game is still in development.
Gamers Have Many Concerns That This Will Turn out to Be Another Modern Warfare 3 Mishap
Even though the release of Modern Warfare 3 was met with middling responses, one of the main complaints was its boring missions that required players to explore a small open world to complete set objectives.
If the developers at Raven Software are looking to follow suit with this setting for the next installment of Call of Duty, then they will have to take in the comments of the gaming community and learn from the mistakes made by Modern Warfare 3.
This could be quite a challenge, as the community is hoping this game doesn’t flop just like Modern Warfare 3 did, and if it does, this could mean the end of the Call of Duty franchise?
