Fans shipping characters of their favorite shows is not something new, but according to Matt Owens and Steven Maeda, who are known for creating the live-action series of the popular anime One Piece, any sort of chemistry that was shown was unintentional and will not be entertained in the future and fans should not expect anything romantic.

One Piece live-action premiered on August 31, and since then, it has accumulated over 140,000,000 hours of watch time and managed to become the most successful live-action adaptation to date. One of the things that the fans noticed was the chemistry between Emily Rudd who plays Nami and Mackenyu who portrays Zoro in season 1 of One Piece live-action.

As usual, fans began to ship them together hoping for something new but the creators have been open about it and have clearly stated that anything like this will not happen.

Why fans should not expect anything between the actors

Fans like to ship characters as couples to show how much they love and enjoy the chemistry between the two. This was also the case with the latest addition on Netflix which was One Piece live-action.

It did not take much time for the fans to notice that the synergy between Nami and Zoro or you can say chemistry between the two was particularly well and looked very fascinating.

However, fans’ expectations were crushed when they were informed by the head of the project that they should not expect anything and it was all a mere coincidence.

As we have seen in the anime as well as the manga, romance between Straw Hat members is not focused upon due to Eiichiro Oda sensei wanting to focus on actual stories rather than relationships. While fans were ready and expecting that the live-action might turn the popular characters into couples their hopes were soon turned out to be wrong.

According to showrunner Steven Maeda this was not something that they were focusing upon but somehow turned out to be the case. Also, it was mentioned that Oda sensei himself does not like the idea of romance, and therefore respecting the author they will not be going further with it.

We have yet to see an announcement but according to leaks it can be announced this week or this month but fans do not need to worry about season 2. The total amount of watch time the live-action has accumulated is very high and due to its success, a season 2 would inevitably be announced sooner or later.
