It would be wrong of us to admit that this is truly a sad day, but this isn’t the direction we will be going down. Rather, this is a celebration of the great games this man has been behind and what he has left us with from his legendary pipes.

Having given us a voice behind the red hat-wearing, moustache-spouting, bowser-defeating plumber, Martinet also voiced a number of famous Nintendo characters and did so for over 30 years. He lent his voice to Mario’s timid ghost hunter brother Luigi, the villainous mini-game maestro Wario, and his infamous partner Waluigi. Martinet also voiced their baby counterparts.

Charles Martinet will be sorely missed throughout Nintendo’s future projects.

Although as of late with the Super Mario Bros Movie we saw different calibre of Hollywood style actors voicing our favorite Nintendo mascots, we know this will not be the case for future games. And with some Mario-based games on route, we cannot help but wonder who Nintendo will cast as this character.

Most voice actors today are fantastic at multiple different characters, and giving credit where credit is due, Chris Pratt did a very good job as Mario and Charlie Day did equally as good as Luigi. However, there will be no one who voices such a range of memorable leading characters as Charles Martinet.

Fans are wondering who will be cast as Mario now that the legend, Charles Martinet, is stepping down.

Fans are already speculating if the new voice for Mario has already been cast. From a personal point of view, Charles Martinet was something you always just associate with Mario and the world of the mushroom kingdom, and I will continue to do so for the rest of my days. He has left that legacy and that legacy will live on in generations to come.

Getting to experience that joy alongside him, knowing that you can clearly hear behind his voice that he is having an absolute blast with each and every eccentric character from Nintendo, is an absolute pleasure. And it is an even greater pleasure having heard what he brought to the table every single time.

He will be missed this is an absolute fact! But what a contribution to the gaming community from hearing his first HELLO welcoming us to the start-up screen of Super Mario 64, up until the more recent Super Mario Odyssey. It is truly a surreal and fantastic way to retire knowing that anyone from kids to adults will continue to know his voice for years to come, and he can leave these characters knowing he did them justice.

Thank you for all of your work Mr. Martinet may you enjoy your retirement, and “thank you so much for-a letting us play-a your game”.
