No doubt being a superhero requires a lot of hard work. That hard work can be physical, mental, or both. Well, the same happened with the Superman star, Henry Cavill. The actor has to go under a super transformation to play the character of Superman. From hours of workout sessions to a fixed calories diet with no fat, he had to make a habit of following the schedule provided by his fitness trainers.
Although the actor is a perfect fit to play the character of the mighty Superman, he still needed to work on his body to play the character.

Training in Gym Jones
To fit the role of the Man of Steel, Henry Cavill joined an exclusive gym, which is known for training athletes, military personnel, and the cast of 300. The exclusive gym is none other than Gym Jones. It is known for its strict schedule and concentration training. Unlike regular gyms, it does not have televisions, mirrors, machines, and comfort.
Henry Cavill trained for two and a half hours a day, pushing his body for more and more. Talking about his workout he said, “I am pushing two and a half hours a day, pushing my body beyond its normal limits.”
He also talked about how all this training and workout takes a toll not only on your physical health but also on your psychological health. There was a point when he told his trainer, Mark Twight that he can’t continue, to which Twight replied, “Do not listen to the lies.”
The trainer also used one of his special techniques called the Tailpipe. Twight named the workout routine based on the after feeling of the workout. According to him, “When you’re done it feels like you’ve been sucking a Tailpipe of a car.” Cardio was also a part of his workout.
Nine to Ten Hours of Sleep Per Day for Five Months
The trainer not only made sure he did not give up but also kept full parameters of Cavill’s health. According to Cavill, his trainer told him to get 9 to 10 hours of sleep every day for five months of training.
He said, “If you don’t get the sleep, if you can’t recover, then we can’t continue with this training and we won’t achieve this objective.”
How Did Henry Cavill Stay in Shape for the Movie?
However, once the filming started, the training stopped and Cavill had to keep himself in shape. It is not something new for Henry Cavill to get in the gym and exercise. The actor has been on a rugby team before he had to leave due to a concussion.
He was the back-rower of his team. Not just that, he is also known to have an interest in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. He has frequently taken Jiu-Jitsu lessons from ten-time world champion Roger Gracie.
Man of Steel Workout and Diet
Training and working out is not the only thing that Cavill did to fit the character. He also had to adjust to what he had to eat in a day and how many calories he was supposed to consume.
He would consume between 3,500 to 5,000 calories per day along with post-workout shakes. Talking about a healthy diet he said, “you’ve got to eat protein first, then a. Little bit of carbs. You’ve gotta keep your hunger levels going.”

Henry Cavill also shared the joy of having a meal without worrying about calories or carbs. He said that as soon as the film was completed he went on to enjoy his cheat day and had an Apple Pie, a Pizza, and a full tub of Ice-cream.
After all, the physical work did payout for the actor as everyone loved his portrayal of Superman. As for now after Justice League, DC has not made any announcements about the next Superman movie, but fans and critics believe that Henry Cavill will return as Superman in DC.
It became even more clear with the announcement of DC’s plans for a crossover of The Black Adam and Superman in the future. With DC coming with new ideas and having a new plan for its movies, it would be interesting to see who will play Superman in future movies.
