Cher might be one of the biggest raging celebrities in Hollywood, but it seems she is equally concerned about her family as she is about her career. As per the recent turn of events, the legendary pop singer is reported to be wanting to take over her son Elijah Blue Allman’s fortune of $10 million.
Not only has the singer-cum-actress signed a petition asking to be made the conservator of her secondborn’s estate, but she has also cited the reason behind this as her belief that the fortune would be “spent on drugs” since Blue Allman is incapable of managing his finances despite being a 47-year-old adult.
Cher Has Petitioned To Become Elijah’s Estate Conservator
As conveyed by The Hollywood Reporter, pop singer Cher has reportedly signed a petition to a Los Angeles judge to allow her to become the estate conservator of the son of her second husband (i.e. the late Gregg Allman), Elijah Blue Allman.
While his fortune on paper is around $10 million, it is worth noting that the 47-year-old Allman receives regular distributions from the G.A. Robbins Descendants Revocable Trust, established by his late father, as well. As per what the petition reads:
“Elijah is entitled to regular distributions from a trust established by his father for his benefit, but given his ongoing mental health and substance abuse issues, Petitioner is concerned that any funds distributed to Elijah will immediately be spent on drugs, leaving Elijah with no assets to provide for himself, and putting Elijah’s life at risk.”
Furthermore, this petition has called for an urgent “temporary conservatorship” as the fortune includes assets that are required to be distributed before the 31st of December, 2023, and Elijah Allman’s mom believes he is “currently unable to manage his assets due to severe mental health and substance abuse issues.”
“[D]ue to Elijah’s struggles with severe mental health and addiction issues, detailed in the concurrently filed Confidential Supplemental Information, Elijah is currently unable to manage his finances and the distribution of funds directly to Elijah would not be in his best interests.”
Because of these reasons, Cher is reported to be seeking the authority to receive the distributions that are owed to her secondborn through his late father’s trust and deposit that amount into an account opened in the name of the conservatorship estate on Elijah Allman’s behalf.
Cher Argues Why Elijah’s Wife Isn’t “Appropriate” To Be His Estate Conservator
While Cher could be an appropriate conservator for her secondborn’s financial assets, Elijah Blue Allman’s wife Marieangela King is also qualified to hold the same position. However, Allman’s mother has also argued in her petition why that won’t be a good option:
“Until recently, Elijah and Angela were estranged and their tumultuous relationship has been marked by a cycle of drug addiction and mental health crises [and that King would not be an appropriate conservator of his estate because they’re in the midst of a divorce and she believes it] would result in the immediate loss or dissipation of Elijah’s assets for self-destructive purposes.”
Moreover, the pop singer has also alleged Elijah Allman of being “unable to form or express a preference concerning the appointment of a conservator for his estate.” However, she has also mentioned that two of Allman’s siblings “have agreed his mother should be appointed,” as THR reports.
Adding to this is the claim that the 77-year-old pop singer “has worked tirelessly to get Elijah into treatment and get him the help he needs [and] loves Elijah immensely and has always acted with his best interests in mind.”
As of this writing, the petition has called for a hearing, which is currently scheduled for the 5th of January, 2024.
