After his Marvel films, Evans has seen success only in Knives Out. The Coen Brothers have delivered multiple cult classics ever since they began directing as a duo. Films such as No Country For Old Men, The Big Lebowski, Fargo, Miller’s Crossing, and more, have earned them the name of being incredible screenwriters and directors who capture the essence of middle and Southern America.

In 2018, after their Western film, The Ballad of Buster Scruggs, the duo decided to split up as, according to Ethan Coen, they were not excited with filmmaking anymore. Joel Coen decided to direct the Denzel Washington starrer, The Tragedy of Macbeth, while Ethan Coen would make his solo feature film debut with the upcoming comedy Drive-Away Dolls.

Deadline reported that Ethan Coen would also be collaborating with Chris Evans, Margaret Qualley, and Aubrey Plaza in another dark comedy titled Honey Don’t! While there have been no exact plot details revealed about the upcoming film, according to IndieWire, the film will see Qualley as a private investigator, Chris Evans as a cult leader, and Plaza as a mysterious woman.

Chris Evans’ Honey Don’t!, was also described as a comedy that was similar in lines to Ethan Coen’s upcoming film Drive-Away Dolls, which also starred Margaret Qualley and Australian actor Geraldine Vishwanathan. The film was also written by Coen’s wife Trica Cooke, who reportedly also wrote Honey Don’t!

Chris Evans’ films have not performed in the best possible way for the actor. After being a leading part of one of the highest-grossing films of all time, Evans walked out of the MCU after Avengers: Endgame with his head held high. However, the actor seemed to have hit a slump after his tenure at Marvel, with most of his efforts not working well at the box office.

Chris Evans had his first post-MCU role in the Netflix action drama The Red Sea Diving Resort, which received mixed-to-negative reviews. Evans then starred in the highly acclaimed mystery comedy Knives Out, which also starred an ensemble cast of Daniel Craig, Jamie Lee Curtis, Ana de Armas, Michael Shannon, and more.

Evans’ next big release was the animated film Lightyear, in which he provided the voice for the main character Buzz Lightyear. The film underperformed at the box office, earning only $226 million against a $200 million budget. He then reunited with the Russos in The Gray Man, a Netflix release which also starred Ana de Armas and Ryan Gosling. The film received mixed responses.

Evans reunited with Ana de Armas again in 2023’s Ghosted. The film premiered on Apple TV+ and had record viewership, but the film was panned by critics. Both Evans and de Armas received a Razzie nomination for Worst Actor and Actress, respectively, and they also received a nomination for Worst Screen Couple. Chris Evans’ next film with Emily Blunt, Pain Hustlers, was also panned by critics and audiences alike.

With many such slumps at the box office and critically, Chris Evans is in strong need of a comeback, and his collaboration with noted auteur Ethan Coen in Honey Don’t!, might just do the trick. The presence of Aubrey Plaza, who is gaining rave reviews for her role in White Lotus, might also work in the movie’s favor.
