While speaking to fans at ACE Comic-Con, Avengers: Infinity War star Chris Evans teased his character’s new identity as Nomad along with discussing how Captain America’s costumes have evolved over the films.
Instagram user mkgschultre posted a photo of Captain America’s shield signed by Chris Evans and Sebastian Stan at the convention in Phoenix. Below Evans’ signature, he wrote the word “nomad”, with Stan writing “I’m with nomad” with a drawn arrow pointing at Evans’ signature.

After divorcing himself from his government due to their practices, Captain America chose a new moniker known as Nomad. There’s been much speculation if Steve Rogers would take on the name of Nomad in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, considering the events following Captain America: Civil War.
With Rogers taking the Nomad title and separating himself from the Captain America title, he also ditches the star-spangled uniform. During a panel, Evans spoke about his new costume in Avengers: Infinity War, and how costume changes from previous films have contributed to the development of the character:
“Yeah yeah, I had a beard, they gave me the beard! I was so happy about that. You know I think there’s a real, it’s always tricky because I know there’s a lot of purists who kind of want Cap to look a certain way you know, even the colors in the suits you know.”
Evans also mentioned which suits were one of his favorite, and one of his least favorites:
“I remember even with Winter Soldier, the suit being that stealth suit, that navy suit, which I loved, loved! Versus that first Avengers suit, which…you know, it was not one of my favorites no,”
Evans never exactly confirmed that his character will be going down the path of Nomad, but discussed how each costume change reflects the progression of Cap’s character:
“So to try and discuss whether or not we let the look deviate from the origin went through a few discussions, but it was really nice that they let that happen, and it lends itself to the arc and to what he’s going through,”
Captain America will return in Avengers: Infinity War as the film hits theatres on May 4th.
