The Runtime of The Marvels Stands Shorter Than Chris Hemsworth’s MCU Screen Time

With his powerful hammer, Mjolnir, Chris Hemsworth plays the fictional character Thor Odinson, also known as the God of Thunder, in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). The actor first played the character in the 2011 flick of the same name. Kenneth Branagh’s film was a financial success, bringing in $449.3 million worldwide, and critics gave it generally positive reviews. It was thus followed by three releases of the sequels: Thor: The Dark World, Thor: Ragnarok, and Thor: Love and Thunder.

Most recently, the Australian actor reprised the character in Taika Waititi’s Thor: Love and Thunder (2022).

Over ten years have passed since Chris Hemsworth took on the role of Thor in Marvel films. His most recent appearance in Thor: Love and Thunder left the possibility of more adventures in the works. Thus, he was asked about his intentions to pick up Thor’s hammer once again when EW interviewed the Australian actor for his Extraction 2 cover story. The actor said he has “no idea”, while further adding:

“I’ve got to be careful how I word that because I have no idea what’s happening in the next phase. There’s always conversations, like with Extraction. Before anything is official, people are throwing around ideas. But officially, I don’t know.”

Thor is also the only Marvel character to have four solo films. Although Hemsworth said he enjoys playing the part, he wants to keep experimenting with genre and style if he makes another Thor movie. Stated differently, he wanted to keep it “a little unpredictable.”

“I don’t want to continue to do it until people are so exhausted that they roll their eyes when they see me come on the screen as that character. If an audience wants to see it, and if there’s something that we believe is exciting and fun, then great. I’ve loved being able to reinvent that character a few times. I don’t have the answer yet, but I would love to try and [figure out] how we can do that again and keep it a little unpredictable.”

The amount of screen time Hemsworth has in the Marvel Cinematic Universe is evidence of his exceptional abilities and dedication to the role of Thor.
