Chris Hemsworth is no stranger when it comes to transforming himself for his films. Take his Fat Thor transformation, for example. While filming for Avengers: Endgame, the actor had to shoot in a fat suit that weighed anywhere between sixty to seventy pounds. On top of that, he had to wear layers and layers of clothing and stuff the sides of his mouth to make his cheeks look fuller.

And now, Chris Hemsworth will soon be seen playing the role of Dementus in Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga. Once again, the actor had to go through several hours of intense transformation in order to achieve the look, and it seems like his Endgame transformation is nowhere close to this one.

Directed by George Miller, Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga is the fifth installment in the Mad Max franchise. It stars Anya Taylor-Joy as Imperator Furiosa and Chris Hemsworth as Dementus, a warlord leader. With luscious locks, a full beard, and a handlebar mustache, Hemsworth looks absolutely incredible in the role.

However, it was not easy to achieve Dementus’ final look for the actor. On May 11, Hemsworth posted a seventeen-second-long video on his social media showing the efforts gone into turning him into Dementus. He captioned the video, “Chris Hemsworth is Dangerous…Damaged…Demented..Dementus.”

Take a look at the timelapse below where he gets his hair and make-up done by an extremely talented group of artists.

Hemsworth also took the time to tag and give credit to his makeover team, which includes hairstylist Luca Vanella, make-up designer Matteo Silvi, and make-up artist Luca Mazzoccoli.

The result of the hard work was Dementus’ jaw-dropping look that will go down in history as one of Hemsworth’s best transformations in his career. It looks like his Fat Thor transformation has some serious competition!

It Took Chris Hemsworth 4 Hours to Transform

In an interview with Entertainment Tonight, Hemsworth and Taylor-Joy were asked about their respective transformations in the upcoming film. The Extraction actor replied,

“We both had a good three-four hours in make-up depending on what the look was for what time period within the film. I had sort of, you know, pick-up at 3:00 A.M. and I was on set by maybe 7. So it was a long, it’s a long time but you’d stare back in the mirror and not recognize the person.”

He also joked that sitting on the chair for hours on end also helped him do wonders with his character thanks to the rage that kept on building inside him due to the transformation.

“There’s a justified amount of pent-up rage from having to sit still that long, which you could use as your character.”

For his body’s transformation, though, Hemsworth had the help of his personal trainer Luke Zocchi, who knew that they wanted Dementus to have a different look than Thor. In an interview, Centr expert Zocchi stated,

“As the leader of the bad guys, he wanted to have a presence. There were no body fat percentages to hit, he just wanted to be lean and strong, and not overly bulky like Thor.”

The two of them trained for three to four days in a week and did full-body workouts, including bench presses and deadlifts. As for how the workout was different than what they did for Thor, Zocchi said,

“Thor training is more like the classic Centr Power program approach – we would train to failure with heavy loads and take longer rests in between sets. For Furiosa, we were lifting a bit lighter, but balancing that with shorter rest breaks to keep the heart rate up. And not quite pushing to failure, so Chris still had something in reserve for the cardio.”

Well, Hemsworth clearly has a great team on hand, whether it is the make-artists or his personal trainer. Every single one of them has what it takes to support the actor through his Hollywood journey.

Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga releases in theatres on May 24, 2024.
