Christopher Nolan has returned with another big-time project, Oppenheimer which involves an ensemble cast led by Cillian Murphy. Given that the film is facing quite a clash with Greta Gerwig’s Barbie led by titular actress, Margot Robbie, the box-office competition is pretty intense! While both the films continue to spar at theatres, Nolan is one step ahead and has actually reached another crucial achievement.

This new achievement has even surpassed Martin Scorsese’s 2013 project, The Wolf of Wall Street which grossed $392M worldwide. Not just that, the 2023 thriller is also close to overtaking Clint Eastwood-directed film, American Sniper which grossed $497 million worldwide.

Due to its rating, the film limited its audience to a certain degree but the global box office collection is looking quite promising. It raked in $180 million on its opening weekend thus becoming one of the biggest weekends for theatres in history. While the film continues to entice the world’s attention, titular actor, Cillian Murphy expressed his opinion on the role of Robert J. Oppenheimer.

I do think that he believed it would be the weapon to end all wars,” Murphy stated. “He thought that (having the bomb) would motivate countries to form a sort of nuclear world governance. He was naive.”

The Peaky Blinders actor recalled getting guidance from the film director in understanding his character’s nuance.

Chris used this amazing phrase,” he said. “We were talking about Oppenheimer’s arc and he said, ‘You know, he’s dancing between the raindrops morally.’ That unlocked something in my mind when I was preparing.”

Other than Murphy, the film also stars Emily Blunt playing his character’s wife, Katherine “Kitty” Oppenheimer, Matt Damon as General Leslie Groves, and Robert Downey Jr. as Lewis Strauss. Meanwhile, the supporting cast includes Florence Pugh, Josh Hartnett, and Kenneth Branagh.

Oppenheimer is running in theatres meanwhile The Wolf of Wall Street is available to watch on Prime Video.
