While there were many speculations about Nolan being considered to potentially direct a James Bond film, The Prestige filmmaker has confirmed that this is not on the cards as he was not yet ready to take on to a multi-film commitment with the franchise. Now, a Reddit user has come up with a brainwave that could be the answer to Nolan’s involvement.

Christopher Nolan On Why The James Bond Franchise Isn’t his Cup Of Tea

Oscar winner Christopher Nolan’s name has been making the rounds for quite sometime regarding a potential James Bond gig. According to rumors, the director was being considered to helm a few marquee films featuring the suave secret agent with his unique style.

But the Oscar winner himself put an end to these speculations when he confirmed that he would not be stepping on board. Speaking on the Happy Sad Confused podcast, the Memento filmmaker first made it clear that he was a hardcore fan of the franchise.

He then went on to state that a long-term commitment with an established and well-oiled franchise may not leave room for his very specific inputs and conditions to take shape.

“You wouldn’t want to take on a film not fully committed to what you bring to the table creatively. So as a writer, casting, everything, it’s a full package. You’d have to be really needed, you’d have to be really wanted in terms of bringing the totality of what you bring to a character. Otherwise, I’m very happy to be first in line to see whatever they do.”

Despite Nolan having helmed The Dark Knight trilogy, it doesn’t seem likely that the director could go the franchise route again especially after his Oppenheimer Oscar. But with the director admitting that he has admired James Bond, time will tell if he is presented with an inspiring script that could be tailor-made for his unique set of skills.

Can Christopher Nolan Direct A James Bond film? This Fan Has It Planned Out

While there aren’t any signs of a collaboration between Christopher Nolan and the James Bond franchise any time soon, a Reddit user has come up with an ingenious plan that could make Barbara Broccoli get the Oppenheimer director on board.

The Redditor named 007Kryptonian adressed Nolan’s concern about creative control in a long-term commitment to the franchise, and presented a very plausible and workable solution that would benefit both sides and also produce a unique James Bond film. Referring to Nolan’s very specific process that the director has never deviated from, he said,

“The main obstacle between him and the Broccolis seems to be having creative control. But what if, instead of a full blown trilogy/saga, Nolan did one film and left everything on the table? That’s it. 3+ hours, 70mm IMAX, Hans Zimmer or Ludwig Goransson, and Hoyte van Hoyetma. Tom Hardy or Henry Cavill as Bond himself.”

The Redditor added that this would give Nolan the freedom to put his heart and soul into one film without being tied down by the requirements of the franchise. This would also be a win-win solution for Broccoli who could benefit from one unique James Bond film from the Nolan camp before going back to the basics of the franchise.
