Christopher Nolan has earned numerous accolades for his work in the cinema. He recently took home his maiden Academy Award. And, now he is about to get a whole new honor that only a few can boast of.

Start calling him Sir Christopher Nolan from now onwards. The Oscar-winning filmmaker and his wife producer Emma Thomas are to receive a knighthood and damehood for their services to the movie industry.

Nolan and Thomas have collaborated on all of his major feature films,  including The Dark Knight trilogy, 2010’s Inception, 2014’s Interstellar, 2017’s Dunkirk, and 2020’s Tenet. However, Nolan is not the only member of The Dark Knight trilogy to receive this honor from the Royal family.

It’s Christopher Nolan’s year, and we are just living in it. His movie Oppenheimer won seven Oscars at the 2024 Academy Awards, out of the 13 categories in which it was nominated. Not to talk about the commercial success of the movie.

And, following the huge success of the movie, Christopher Nolan and his wife, film producer Emma Thomas, are to receive a knighthood and damehood, respectively. Nolan already received the honor of the Commander of the Order of the British Empire in 2019. 

A knighthood is granted to “those who have made a significant contribution to their field, usually on a national level.

Nolan was born in London to a British father and an American mother and attended the University College London (UCL). That’s where he met his wife, Emma Thomas. The pair got married in 1997, share four children, and run a production company, Syncopy. 

The Other Dark Knight Trilogy Member to Receive Knighthood, Apart From Christopher Nolan

Michael Caine portrayed the character Alfred Pennyworth, the loyal butler of Bruce Wayne/Batman, in Christopher Nolan’s Batman Begins, The Dark Knight and The Dark Knight Rises, being the one of the five actors to appear in all three movies.

The British film star, a two-time Oscar winner, began his acting career on the stage in the early 1950s, before making his movie debut in 1956. The Italian Job actor received his first Academy Award for his supporting role in the 1986 Woody Allen film Hannah and Her Sisters, and the second for another supporting role, in the 1999 film The Cider House Rules.

The actor was knighted in the Queen’s birthday honors list in June 2000 on the personal recommendation of Prime Minister Tony Blair.

Being knighted is an extraordinary honor for me. It’s the recognition of a lifetime – this is the top one. It’s like winning an Oscar – you don’t expect it,” he said after receiving the honor. (Via BBC)

Sir Michael added: “The Queen said to me, ‘I get the impression that you’ve been doing this for a very long time‘.”

Caine was made Commander of the Order of the British Empire (CBE) in 1993. Sir Michael Caine confirmed his retirement at the age of 90, announcing in an interview with BBC Radio 4’s Today show last year.

I keep saying I’m going to retire. Well, I am now,” he said. 

Caine has appeared in more than 130 films, including Zulu, Alfie, Harry Brown, Educating Rita, and Sleuth.
