Cillian Murphy has been often known to have lavish dinners and enjoy some whiskey due to his portrayal of Thomas Shelby in the BBC drama series Peaky Blinders. With the actor, all set to star in Christopher Nolan’s upcoming magnum opus Oppenheimer, Cillian Murphy wasn’t able to have dinner with his co-stars Matt Damon and Emily Blunt.

Citing a reason so daunting, Emily Blunt felt quite a pity for Murphy as the actor wasn’t able to join them for dinner. Stating that Murphy’s brain was full from the pressure of being the lead actor in the film, Matt Damon agreed that Cillian Murphy didn’t want to join them for dinner!

When Cillian Murphy Refused To Join Matt Damon And Emily Blunt For Dinner

Being the lead actor in a movie has its perks. Being the lead actor in a Christopher Nolan movie, however, seems to have its disadvantages as well. Although Cillian Murphy was known to host dinner parties followed by some intense smoking sessions when he was portraying Tommy Shelby in Peaky Blinders, it all stopped when Christopher Nolan walked in.

With Murphy in the lead role as J. Robert Oppenheimer in the 2023 movie, it became quite a challenge for the actor to manage his time effectively. With most of the runtime allotted to him, it was obvious that the Batman Begins actor had to shoot more scenes than his co-stars. Recalling the shooting conditions while they were in the middle of the New Mexican desert, Emily Blunt and Matt Damon complained that Cillian Murphy refused to join them for dinner.

“We were all in the same hotel in the middle of the New Mexican desert. We only had each other. Me and Matt were roommates and we were like, ‘Let’s go to have dinner.'”

Blunt further added that Cillian Murphy wasn’t able to join them for dinner due to the intense amount of work that he had to do.

“The sheer volume of what he had to take on and shoulder is so monumental,” said Blunt. Matt Damon further revealed that “Of course he didn’t want to come and have dinner with us. He couldn’t. His brain was just too full.”

Cillian Murphy further added his input that he felt quite overwhelmed during the shooting of the movie since he was the lead actor which added pressure on him.

With the homophobic senator Ron DeSantis hoping to win the elections, the senator created a homophobic video that seemed to glorify straightness and masculinity. Although it was a trick against Donald Trump, the video featured Murphy as Thomas Shelby in a still from Peaky Blinders.

The creator of the series Steven Knight along with the entire team stated that the imagery was used without permission and that the video does not express their views on the matter.

“We do not support nor endorse the video’s narrative and strongly disapprove of the use of the content in this manner” wrote Murphy and the Peaky Blinders team in a joint tweet.

With his iconic portrayal of J. Robert Oppenheimer, Cillian Murphy is all set to shine alongside Emily Blunt and Matt Damon when Oppenheimer releases on 21st July 2023 in theaters across the U.S.
