It’s much more convenient for many Hollywood stars or celebrities to quickly take a picture with their fans and move on. However, Cillian Murphy does not follow the same approach to fan interaction, as he shared during his recent interview with GQ Magazine.
Walking through the streets of Dublin, the actor was approached by a fan who, as usual, wanted a quick snap with him. “Oh, I don’t do photos,” Murphy told the person before having a brief conversation with him, as the 47-year-old actor believes that “it’s better to say hello and have a little conversation.”
And this way of fan interaction has changed his life. “But you don’t need a photo record of everywhere you’ve been in a day,” he said, emphasizing that he prefers having connections made and having shared memories rather than capturing everything in the camera.
Despite his profession often being in front of the camera, Cillian Murphy doesn’t seem too fond of taking pictures in public, as he has shared in an earlier interview that he is always happy to chat. However, what he does not like is people covertly taking photographs or filming him when he is out in public.
Cillian Murphy Seeks for Privacy Amidst Invasive Camera Culture
In an earlier interview with The Guardian, Hollywood actor Cillian Murphy expressed his concerns about the overwhelming prevalence of cameras and the lack of privacy. He also shared that he prefers to keep a low profile and values personal interactions.
“I really don’t go out much,” he said, as he expressed discomfort with the practice of people taking photographs. “What I don’t like is people surreptitiously taking photographs,” he said before adding, “It’s so f**king weird.”
While he acknowledged his status as a public figure and beloved actor, Murphy also stressed the need to address the pervasiveness of cameras in public spaces. “I think this thing of having cameras everywhere is something we need to sort out,” he told the outlet.
However, the Inception actor also acknowledged the generational shift in attitudes towards technology and privacy, as he said, “Or maybe I’m just old,” a reason he has also cited for his disinterest in social media or internet trends. The Irish actor is now nominated for Best Actor at the 2024 Oscars for his performance in the biographical thriller Oppenheimer.
