CM Punk is a wrestling champion, known as well for his punches as he is for voicing his dissent. The wrestler has not had the best relationship with the WWE and even threw in the towel on his career for a bit before he made his way back to the ring.
The WWE has been rocked by some serious allegations this year, with Vince McMahon, the former CEO of the organization, at the heart of the controversy. Punk shared candid details about his last meeting with McMahon before delving into the controversy that ruined his reputation.
CM Punk opens up about his last meeting with Vince McMahon
Phillip Jack Brooks, best known as CM Punk, is an American wrestler. He even tried his hand at Mixed Martial Arts a few years ago, but he had a humiliating run since the two are very different disciplines. His skills as a wrestler did not come in handy at all, and his opponents were able to overcome him quickly in the ring, but he does not regret the experience. Regardless, he is best known for holding the seventh-longest streak as WWE Champion, an impressive feat that lasted 434 days.
The former champion has had a strenuous relationship with the WWE in the past. He walked away from it in 2014 before he enlisted in AEW, a rival organization, where he won the AEW World Championship twice. He finally returned to the WWE at the Survivor Series War Games pay-per-view last year, after close to a decade.
Brooks recently appeared on an episode of the MMA Hour with Ariel Helwani podcast, who is a respected UFC journalist. He spoke on a variety of subjects, including his run-in with Vince McMahon at the gym since he made his return.
“He gave me a big hug, he said, ‘Welcome home, it’s good to see you. Let’s connect after our workout,’ and I was like, ‘All right,’ haven’t seen him since,” he added with a laugh.
McMahon has been embroiled in a massive controversy since the new year rolled around. It has tarnished his reputation as an honorable man, raising questions about all his actions off the camera.
The allegations against Vince McMahon rocked the community
Earlier in January this year, The Wall Street Journal reported that Janel Grant, a former employee at the organization, filed a lawsuit against the head of talent relations, John Laurinaitis, and former CEO and Chairman Vince McMahon. Grant alleged that the aforementioned parties were engaged in s*x trafficking, exploitation, and assault.
Grant detailed her harrowing experience working under the former chairman of the WWE. She further alleged that he s*xually abused her while promising that it would help her advance her career.
Punk also touched upon this lawsuit during the episode. He was astonished by McMahon’s actions and added that he could not paint it in a positive light, even if he tried.
“I mean, there’s no positivity there. There’s very much a — I didn’t read all of the allegations. I read text messages and I went, ‘Oh, f*ck this. It’s indefensible.’ You know? And I think doing this, I’d imagined I was going to be asked about it. I think the easiest thing for people to do is to ignore it or avoid it, but man, it’s there,” he said.
Vince McMahon has been like a parental figure to many, even if there were differences. He has also been criticized severely. However, the allegations against him are serious, and only time will tell if there will be repercussions.
