Despite their apparent animosity, they share an excellent working relationship that has done wonders for their careers. CM Punk gave a fascinating insight into his relationship with Cena in an interview and made some eyebrow-raising remarks that have caught the attention of fans.

CM Punk Has Always Liked Working With John Cena

CM Punk has worked with several WWE fighters which has resulted in some of the best fights spectators have witnessed. However, his most entertaining rivalry has been with the king of the ring and Hollywood star, John Cena.

What first started as a feud quickly turned into an amiable chemistry, helping them become the show stealers anytime they would step into the ring together. Having had several top-class matches over the years, Punk has always enjoyed working with the Peacemaker star. During an interview with Starrcast back in 2019, he stated,

“I always liked working with John because it was easy. I think John was in a position where he was almost kind of glad somebody else came in and forcibly took the reins.” 

He then recalled how much he enjoyed taking control of their first-ever match, realizing that the 16-time World WWE Champion only had about 5 set moves in the ring.

There is no doubt that John Cena is an incredible WWE fighter and CM Punk has certainly enjoyed working with his in-the-ring rival too much. However, while recalling their first-ever match back in 2009, he revealed how surprised the DC star was when he suddenly took over as they hadn’t had the chance to call the match.

But Punk did not mind one bit that they didn’t get a chance to interact beforehand, for he claims Cena only had about 5 set moves (via Starrcast).

“It’s like John Cena, you know what he does. He does the five things (set moves) and that’s it. So if you can’t figure that out, then you’re in trouble.”

And so they went on with their first match with CM Punk calling the match, unknowingly forging the best rivalry and camaraderie that WWE had ever witnessed.
