After helming seven seasons of American Idol alongside Luke Bryan and Lionel Richie, the pop icon is finally set to bid adieu from the show. Katy Perry, who has remained an integral part of American Idol since its revival by ABC, did go on to explain why she has decided to take the step, stressing that she is creating space for other things.
But it’s important to note that not long before the announcement, reports emerged claiming that Perry and her longtime partner Orlando Bloom have been going through some challenging times. And perhaps the alleged tensions in their relationship might’ve also played a part in her decision to part ways with American Idol after the upcoming season.
Katy Perry Is Eying to Do More Things Post-American Idol
During her appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live!, Katy Perry dropped the news to an unsuspecting audience, stating that the upcoming season will be her last tenure as the show’s judge. Expanding on her reasoning behind this decision, the Dark Horse singer stressed that she was making room to do other things in life as she teased the possibility of some new music in the foreseeable future.
She said:
“I think this probably will be my last show, my last season for Idol. I mean I love Idol so much. It’s connected me with the heart of America, but I feel like I need to go out and feel that pulse to my own beat, you what I’m saying Jimmy?… I love the show so much but I wanna go and see the world and maybe bring new music.”
However, there might be more to her decision to leave American Idol, as this announcement comes not long after the reports of an alleged rift in Perry’s relationship with Orlando Bloom.
Things Aren’t Ideal Between Katy Perry and Orlando Bloom Claimed Insider
The duo, who first came across at the 2016 Golden Globes party, have been grappling with difficulties in their longtime bond, claimed Insider. Perry and Bloom, who temporarily parted ways in 2017 before shortly reuniting a year later and welcoming their daughter in 2020, allegedly have stopped putting efforts to sort things out. Speaking with Life & Style, the Insider further claimed that despite living in the same house, the two have been leading separate lives, stating,
“They live together, but it does seem like they’re leading separate lives. Katy is happy filming American Idol or promoting her shoe line, while Orlando would rather be jumping out of an airplane or off a mountain.”
Following the rumors surrounding their bond, it’s quite possible Perry’s decision to leave American Idol might’ve to deal with her relationship, perhaps to put more time into reconciling things. However, considering none of them have come forward to address the rumors, nothing can be said for certain. On the bright side, Perry didn’t completely shut down the window of a possible return to American Idol as Judge in the distant future, stating maybe she will come back “if they’ll have me one day”.
Season 22 of American Idol will premiere on ABC on 18 February 2024.
