In 2017, Conor McGregor made the crossover possible by having a historic fight against Floyd Mayweather. Not just the fighter but even UFC investor Mark Wahlberg was quite optimistic about the event. Sitting down with JOE, Wahlberg discussed how he sees McGregor vs Mayweather as a money making fight.
“I think Conor is going to go in there and he’s going to take a couple of shots to get one. It’ll be interesting to see if he can catch Floyd and if Floyd can handle that power and that punch,”
Despite high hopes, unfortunately, Mayweather defeated the Irish fighter by technical knockout in the 10th round. This defeat led Conor McGregor to seek attention and fame through controversies that sparked an unnecessary feud with Mark Wahlberg.

Following his grand loss against Floyd Mayweather, Conor McGregor somehow became hungry for fame and relevance in the industry, as per people’s opinion. Therefore he tried to own a share of the MMA promotion. Requesting an equity stake in the company in 2016, 2017, and again in 2019, McGregor got repeatedly turned down.
That’s when he saw no other option but to call out one of the 23 celebrity investors in the UFC for a fight. Hungry for attention and fortune, Conor McGregor chose Mark Wahlberg, since he was the one who shared his opinion whatsoever on the McGregor vs Mayweather fight in 2017. Thus, the UFC champion shared a cryptic and controversial tweet, challenging Wahlberg.
