Valve may have already revealed the release date for Counter-Strike 2 with a post on X (formerly Twitter). Counter-Strike 2 is said to be an overhaul of the Counter-Strike experience that has become quite popular in the gaming community. Counter-Strike 2 limited test began in March to select players based on their recent playtime and Steam account standing.

Ever since the limited test, there have been no updates or news of an official release date, until now. Last night’s post has been the most direct reveal by Valve yet, for a planned release date. Valve also released three teasers, explaining what gamers can expect in the game using the Source 2 Engine.

Gamers should still hold on to their hats, as things might still change since the team at Valve is well-known for not rushing a release. Counter-Strike 2 was revealed earlier this year and has since received tons of new updates including reworked smoke grenades, updated movement and server rates to remove the game’s tick system, and finally, updated visuals.

The maps in the game have also mostly either been reworked completely or received a visual facelift. Counter-Strike 2 is all set to be released as a new game, though it will come out as an update to CS: GO. This means players will see their saved CS: GO skins and progress carry over to Counter-Strike 2, including their matchmaking rank.

Gamers will see a visible measurement of their Counter-Strike 2 performance which will determine their stand on regional and global leaderboards. Unrated players must play enough matches in the updated competitive mode, Premier mode.

Smoke grenades in the game will become more dynamic volumetric objects. Smoke grenades will react to lighting for a more realistic light and color, gunfire, and explosions better. They can also push smoke away briefly to clear sightlines. Smoke will be seen filling open spaces more naturally, filling up doorways, broken windows, and stairs.

The tick rate will not matter in terms of player movements, shooting, or throwing. With a Sub-tick update, servers will now know the exact instance a shot is fired or a grenade is thrown by a player. Maps are said to be brighter, as maps get a complete overhaul using Source 2 tools and rendering features. Materials, lighting, and reflections are produced by a physically based rendering system using Source 2 lighting.

Community map makers will get access to Source 2 tools and rendering features at a later stage to easily build, experiment, and iterate, along with a Source 2 Item Workshop. Counter-Strike 2 will display all of the player’s inventory items under bright lights and in high-resolution models.

Finally, the gameplay will also show players better visuals of bullet impacts and environmental effects. The HUD will also be seen displaying updated visual effects. Finally, the game’s audio is also said to have been reworked completely for a rebalanced listening experience.
