The little anxiety you felt in your gut when you first saw Dragon’s Dogma 2 was an indication of how demanding the game was going to be the day it came out. Indeed, PC players are either drowning in pain or straightaway refunding the game due to major heating and frame rate issues.
Interestingly, Capcom is well aware of this and the devs are working on a fix. Until then, it’s time to sit back and wonder what the massive open world will truly feel like when things are working just fine.
Dragon’s Dogma 2’s unlimited potential, and the limited machines to unleash it
If you’re a PC player trying to run Dragon’s Dogma 2, our sympathies lie with you. The online community has been quite vocal about this, and users like MaetzleAT on Reddit are exploring this issue. The comments section is filled with hilarious and worried players who are more than eager to run the game but can’t play it with low frame rates and heating issues.
User Chadzuma points out how this very initial stage of the open-world experience itself makes the game drain resources:
In the character creator, changing my resolution from the default 720p to 1080p gave me a warning it would exceed my card’s texture memory. I have a 3060ti. It may in fact be Itsunover. Hopefuly it’s-un-over eventually.
Twitter isn’t away from this conversation either. Discussions around the same ponder over a possible fix that might improve the frame rates to something more playable.

User SynthPotato on Twitter speaks about the same; the game requires a pretty high-end system to run smoothly without any problems.
How ‘high-end’ are we talking about?
According to Dragon’s Dogma 2’s Steam page, these are the system specs you need to run the game smoothly:
Requires a 64-bit processor and operating system |
OS: Windows 10 (64 bit)/Windows 11 (64 bit) |
Processor: Intel Core i7-10700 / AMD Ryzen 5 3600X |
Memory: 16 GB RAM |
Graphics: NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2080 / AMD Radeon RX 6700 |
DirectX: Version 12 |
Network: Broadband Internet connection |
Additional Notes: Estimated performance: 2160i/30fps. Framerate might drop in graphics-intensive scenes. NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2080 Ti or AMD Radeon RX 6800 is required to support ray tracing. |
Seems like even Steam is asking you to be cautious of the frame drops. Whether you’re planning on spending every second customizing your character or skipping chunks of the narrative entirely, the game is going to be demanding no matter what.
Given the graphical intensity and open-endedness of the game, it’s not surprising to see these issues pop up on day 1. Hopefully, the creative minds behind Dragon’s Dogma 2 will come up with a solution in no time.
