Starfield is one of the most anticipated video games of the year, and it is only a couple of months away from release, with fans highly excited to get their hands on the potentially huge upcoming title. To add another significant reason to get players pumped up for the game, Bethesda’s director has confirmed that the game will also be a “paradise” for gamers who love to unleash their creativity and mod video games. Having previously mentioned that the studio will completely “participate” in the process as well, a recent update on X (previously Twitter) basically further reassures that the beloved Creation Club will be coming back to the game.

The Creation Club news was shared in a post on X (Twitter) by Starfield Beyond, which introduces itself as “The home to the ultimate Starfield community,” meaning that most of the unofficial updates that this user shares are quite authentic. According to the post, the Steam EULA for the game has been updated and now specifically mentions “Creation Credits,” which could probably mean that modders all across the world can rejoice because the Creation Club, or in other words, “paid mods,” would be making a comeback in the upcoming title. This game’s Creation Club update hasn’t randomly appeared out of the blue because director Todd Howard has repeatedly discussed it in the past as well, for example, on the Lex Fridman podcast or during a conversation with Kinda Funny. According to Howard, Bethesda is fully committed to making the game’s world as big as possible, and it will also act as a huge blank canvas for players to go all out on with endless possibilities. To empower the individual creators even further, the studio will also involve itself in the whole process so that they also get paid for their modded work.

During a conversation with Kinda Funny Xcast a while back, director Todd Howard was basically asked about the scope of modding in Starfield and if he was looking forward to the potential. Considering Bethesda’s long history of games being modded for years, it just feels right for its upcoming title to continue the tradition as well. Regarding video game mods, Howard said that it is a gaming aspect that is “part of” their “DNA” at Bethesda, continuing that they “have been doing it for over 20 years.”

Even before the aforementioned interviews, Howard has extensively and enthusiastically talked about the modding potential in Starfield. While engaging with the community on Reddit around two years ago, Howard explained that the “plan” is to give Starfieldfull mod support” similar to Bethesda’s previous titles. He said that Bethesda’s “modding community” has been active for a long time now and that the team absolutely loves the creativity that comes pouring out of the fans, while also hoping “to see more make a career out of it.”

According to Howard, “It’s important for” Bethesda “not just to enable” modding but to actively “participate” in it. Are you looking forward to modding the heck out of Starfield when it releases on September 6? Let us know in the comments!
