The anime and manga industry has grown significantly in the last two decades. Not only has the art form captured the interest of fans worldwide, but many known celebrities have also openly talked about their love for anime and how it has inspired them for their work. One such celebrity is the famous actor Michael B Jordan.
The actor who has also directed the famous Creed 3 has openly talked about his obsession with anime and stated how it helped him get inspiration for his movie. He stated that he has used anime as a reference for his movies and many scenes are inspired by famous anime series like Naruto, My Hero Academia, Hajime No Ippo, and more.
One particular anime that inspired Jordan for a scene in Creed 3 was Dragon Ball. Jordan has talked about it in multiple interviews, but Creed 3 may not have been the only film for which the actor took inspiration from Dragon Ball. His character Killmonger’s outfit in the popular Black Panther movie was also a reference to the famous Dragon Ball Z character, Vegeta.
Michael B Jordan’s Dragon Ball Inspiration For Creed 3
During an interview with IGN, while promoting Creed 3, Michael B Jordan talked about his love for the art form and how anime became a big inspiration for him in his real life and the movie. He mentioned a lot of anime series like Naruto, and My Hero Academia but he also mentioned that there is a punch in the series that is inspired by Dragon Ball.
He stated:
“I would say from the Dragon Ball Z universe, there’s a punch… [in] me and Damian’s fight, where there’s a Dragon Ball Z punch that’s in there.”
Although he didn’t talk about the anime series much he explained how he wanted to put his own touch to the franchise’s fighting scenes and so as he grew up watching anime like Hajime No Ippo and Naruto, he learned about their inherent fighting spirit and decided to implement it in his own direction.
Michael B Jordan Took Inspiration From Vegeta for Black Panther Outfit
As stated earlier, Creed 3 might not be the only movie for which Jordan took inspiration from the Dragon Ball world. His body armor in Black Panther also resembles the Bulma’s Armor model that Vegeta wore for the first time in the Androids saga.
Killmonger, the character played by Jordan in Black Panther had a blue t-shirt and a golden/grey vest which he wore as armor during multiple scenes in the movie. Although the costume designs are not the job of the actors, his outfit unintentionally matches that of the Prince of the Saiyan race, Vegeta.
The anime world is growing at a much faster pace and such events are evidence that the art form has joined the ranks with other famous genres and elements. Jordan is not the only actor who has expressed his love for anime and used it as a reference for his movies. Soon, anime will hold a significant position in the Entertainment industry.
