Son Goku and Vegeta have established themselves as the strongest anime characters of all time. There might be debate surrounding other categories, but when it comes to power levels, there is no one that can match these two. While Goku debuted as the protagonist in Dragon Ball, Vegeta debuted as the main antagonist in Dragon Ball Z’s first saga.
Over the years, they became close allies and even put their lives on the line for each other. But there always remained a contrast between the two. The Prince of all Saiyans always chased Kakarot when it came to acquiring new forms. But the latest chapter of Dragon Ball Super seems to have put that argument to rest, with Vegeta finally getting the win he yearned for many years.
Vegeta Defeats Goku In A Sparring Match
Goku and Vegeta are currently training under Whis. Dragon Ball Super chapter 101 revealed that after three decades, Vegeta has finally defeated Goku in a sparring match. The latter had no hesitation in admitting the defeat, even though he appeared to be disappointed. While the Prince of all Saiyans was training with Broly, he mentioned Bulma said Gohan has reached a new form, which has even surpassed the veteran Saiyans in power level.

Goku answered that he wished he had been present to witness it and mentioned having missed detecting the chi since he was training with Vegeta. Then the latter added, “The duel which you lost to me.” He had an arrogant smirk on his face. A disappointed Goku answered with a witty reply, “Highlight of your lifetime, huh?”
This exchange of words shows that both of them are similar to what the fans think. None of them wants to lose against the other. While Goku has always achieved new forms before Vegeta, the latter always chased him. Super Saiyan, Super Saiyan, God, Super Saiyan Blue, etc., were reached by Goku first and then by Vegeta.
Goku always had a smiling face, but his disappointed face after the defeat proved that he felt the same thing about being second. They both want to be the best. They are so competitive that even a defeat in a practice sparring match gets them annoyed.

Vegeta’s Win Changed the Contrast of Dragon Ball Super
Vegeta always came off as arrogant and was always annoyed. Being the Prince of all Saiyans, he kept on chasing Goku since the end of the Frieza Saga. Even though he reached the levels of Goku, he was always the second one to do so. But now his defeating Kakarot will change the whole contrast of the show.
Along with Broly, the duo are training for the impending danger known as Black Frieza. Vegeta was jealous of Goku but always admired him. Now, Goku will have the same feeling. It was an important defeat for Goku since it gave the fans a closer look at the similarities between the two characters. While the duo are practicing hard, Gohan seems to have surpassed them with his Beast form.

It will be interesting to see how the Akira Toriyama and Toyotaro take the story from here. Since Akira Toriyama came back, the manga has found its original charm. More details are being implemented into the story to grow its popularity, with Goku’s defeat being one of them.
