Although CDPR clearly wanted Cyberpunk 2077 to be its magnum opus, it was actually The Witcher 3 that solidified the studio’s standing in the video game industry. The title nearly perfected the action RPG genre, with a world so expansive that there was always something to do in it. This ranged from an excellent main story to a wide variety of side quests that ensured that the protagonist, Geralt, was constantly on his toes.
However, because of the massive size and scope of The Witcher 3, CDPR couldn’t realistically fit even more content in. So, naturally, a lot of it had to be cut for the final product, which includes an interesting quest that wouldn’t have exactly aligned with everything fans have grown to know and love about Geralt.
Geralt of Rivia Could’ve Been a Part of a Play in The Witcher 3
Similar to most other fandoms, the fanbase of The Witcher 3 also created a whole Wiki for the Witcher universe, explaining the countless elements found in Geralt’s world in great detail. The website also features a page dedicated to the content that never made it to the final game and was cut by CDPR during its development phase. This includes various aspects like usable items, removed characters, playful quests, horrifying monsters, and a few scenes.
One side quest cut from the final version of The Witcher 3 stands out as a highlight, though, because of how ridiculously fun it seems to be, even though it had the potential to ruin one of the most iconic protagonists in the realm of video games. The mission was apparently called The Edge of Acting, which should be more than enough of an indicator regarding what it would’ve been about.
It would’ve taken place in the Novigrad area of the game and could’ve been an entertaining detour from slaying monsters.
Basically, The Edge of Acting would’ve revolved around Dandelion, a character from The Witcher 3, as one of his ballads gets booked for a stage play adaptation. Called The Edge of the World, it would’ve been taking up most of Dandelion’s time as he’s too busy producing it “with an unnamed Director.”
The issue arises when one of his actors goes missing and is causing problems for the whole production, which leads him to ask Geralt to take matters into his own hands and find the actor.
The Choices Geralt of Rivia Would’ve Had in The Witcher 3’s Deleted Quest
So, in the deleted The Witcher 3 side quest, Geralt would’ve gone to find the actor, only to find him dead, causing Dandelion to panic and look for alternative options. The protagonist then would’ve suggested playing his own character in the play, but considering how that would hurt the feelings of the actual actor supposed to play Geralt, the production team asks Geralt to act as the missing Sylvan, leaving it up to him to decide.
If Geralt agrees to play the part, he has to remember and say his lines during the event, which can lead to two outcomes.
By successfully delivering the right dialogue, Geralt would’ve had the potential to get money or win an acting trophy. By failing to do so, he would’ve gotten booed by the audience, leading Dandelion to hilariously regret his decision. As amusing as all of this might’ve been, the sheer goofiness of the quest would’ve hurt the legacy of the beloved The Witcher 3 protagonist.
Since Geralt is mainly known for battling it out against crazy monsters, making love to beautiful women, and being a perfect male specimen, a quest that puts him in the wackiest situation wouldn’t have sat well with some The Witcher 3 fans.
