Dakota Johnson’s Madame Web film had a restrained social media presence during its promotions. Despite being one of Sony’s multiversal Marvel films introducing new characters the high anticipation did not translate into favorable ratings or reviews for the project. With that said, Dakota Johnson recently made a statement about Madame Web that has essentially confirmed that Sony’s Spider-Man Universe is doomed for good.

SJ Clarkson, known for her work on Succession, was responsible for directing the film.

Madame Web released this week and currently stands at 15% on Rotten Tomatoes, which is abysmal, to say the least. In addition to that, it even has a 3.9/10 on IMDB, as it is evident the film is simply not worth watching.

As per One Take News on Twitter, Dakota Johnson made a startling confession, admitting that she has not seen Madame Web yet. Her answer also indicated she does not necessarily have any intention of watching it anytime soon.

“I don’t know when I’ll see it. Someday.”

The future of Sony’s Spider-Man universe is already quite dire, as the next film, Kraven The Hunter, has the herculean task of being the first good Sony Spider-Man movie in the new universe. Only time will tell what will become of the film in the end.

After all, it has become more than evident that Sony is simply not hitting any home runs with their current Spider-Man universe movies. Some may think perhaps it is time for them to go back to the drawing board and make something better for a change.

Despite the film being criticized as one of the worst ever made, Dakota Johnson expressed her willingness to return for a sequel. In an interview with Digital Spy, Johnson mentioned that there is much more to explore.

There is so much I would like to look at. If they want me to come back then I definitely will. I have no idea what’s in storeThis is my first kind of introduction to Marvel, so I feel I would choose whichever superheroes have more physical strengths than Madame Web.”

She then continued,

“I feel she [Madame Web] could handle all the intellectual stuff, and then I just need people who are really strong or like shoot lasers or fireballs out of their fingertips or something.”

Despite effective marketing and high anticipation from millions of fans, Madame Web turned out to be a disappointment. We will have to wait and see whether Sony will even decide to make a sequel in the first place after the abysmal reception. After all, it seems highly unlikely, at this point in time.
