Video games become more fun when an element of curiosity is added to them. Dark Souls does the same, as it is supposed to preserve the sense of mystery. Most of them are added as Easter eggs, but some are purely dedicated to the game those levels are in.

Before social forums and networks discussing video games existed, finding a hidden level kicked in differently. While it may appear like something players aren’t supposed to see, it is in fact there for them to see. While many of you know the games we are about to discuss, chances are you haven’t explored these areas in them yet.

Mysteries are a part of the entire Souls series, and players are supposed to find them across the games’ universe. Interestingly, one of them is likely to keep the players engaged for quite some time, if not for long hours. The area is known as The Painted World of Ariamis and can be found, of course, in a painting.

Players will find the passage to this secret world at the bottom of a giant painting found in the city of Anor Londo. but to access the area, players will need a Peculiar Doll found in the Undead Asylum. As an invader of the land, the inhabitants may ask you to leave.

4. Mile High Club in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare

Marvel fans who have played the original Modern Warfare know what follows next. Players need to sit through the credits after the Game Over mission to catch the flight. According to Infinity Ward, Special Ops in other Modern Warfare games were created in the spirit of Mile High Club.

Players assume the role of an unnamed Task Force 141 operative who’s saving a VIP held as a hostage on a plane by the terrorists. Players who have played Modern Warfare 3 (2011) will find vibes akin to the game’s fifth mission, Turbulence.

Gamers are used to seeing the bottom of the pit in Mortal Kombat moments before they receive their ticket to the afterlife disguised as a jaw-breaking punch. But little do they know, they do have a chance to visit the hellish area in their waking lives too.

They need to land a double-flawless victory on the pit stage and meet a couple more pre-requisites. Once done, players are then taken to the bottom of the pit, where they’ll fight the mysterious Green Ninja, who is later identified as the Reptile. If you do pay him a visit, remember, he’s Scorpion and Sub-Zero all packed in one.

2. Minecraft Cave in Borderlands 2

The developers of Borderlands 2 must be playing Minecraft a lot. So to say, fans would find this location simply a work of art. While the game can be defined as a product of rotoscoping, players will find themselves fighting enemies totally alien to Borderlands. In this small area, users will find an ample amount of loot.

It is hidden in the north-west section of Caustic Caverns but is easy to spot in the vast network of tunnels. Players will see a pixelated block, just like the ones in Mojang’s game. Upon entering the cave, creepers will appear whom users can kill and collect the items dropped by the enemies.

1. Super Mario’s World 1-1 in Dying Light

This version of the game, too, contains hidden blocks.

This must be the coolest thing gamers can witness in their lives. It’s sort of a dream come true, especially when it comes to Super Mario fans.

World 1-1, the popular level from Super Mario Bros., is designed step-by-step in the survival horror video game. It sure does have the power to instantly pull gamers into a nostalgic ride.

While following the parkour discipline in Dying Light‘s Old Town or Sector Zero area, players will come across a familiar-looking chimney where, if they’ll sit, they are transported to a world most of the kids always wanted to see as children.
