Written by Scott Chitwood and Paul Ens, the Afterburn comic is set in a post-apocalyptic world and revolves around Jake who came up with an unusual business idea. The ex-soldier is a treasure hunter who, along with others, trots into the “Burn Zone” to retrieve valuable items and sell them to the highest bidders.

As per Deadline’s report, Dave Bautista plays the lead role of Jake in the upcoming film while Samuel L. Jackson has been given the supporting role of a freedom fighter named Valentine.

Sitting on the director’s chair is none other than J.J. Perry who is credited for films like Day Shift (2022) and The Killer’s Game which will be released this year. He has also been a second unit director on F9 (2021), Murder Mystery 2 (2023), and more. Clearly, Afterburn is in good hands.

Toby Jaffe, who is one of the producers of the film, talked about the film stating,

“Afterburn is a terrific action story, combining the fun of Indiana Jones with the near future world building of Children of Men. J.J. is going to bring this to life in a thrilling way, using real practical stunt work to create authentic, visceral set pieces. Dave is one of the leading action stars in the world today, as well as being an actor with real soul and versatility. So excited to be making Afterburn with them both.”

We can’t wait to see how the film turns out! Just by looking at all the names involved in the project, we can tell it’s going to be an epic entertainment piece.

Having played Drax in the MCU films, Bautista made a place in all of Marvel fans’ hearts thanks to his effortlessly hilarious personality and an equally grim past. However, he decided that Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 would be the last time he’s going to turn into Drax. Talking to GQ, Bautista revealed that while he absolutely adores the character, he wasn’t sure if Drax was the legacy he wanted to leave behind.

“I’m so grateful for Drax. I love him. But there’s a relief [that it’s over]. It wasn’t all pleasant. It was hard playing that role. The makeup process was beating me down. And I just don’t know if I want Drax to be my legacy – it’s a silly performance and I want to do more dramatic stuff.”

While there is no doubt that we will miss seeing him as Drax, Bautista is an extremely talented actor. We are sure his upcoming performances will be a treat to the eyes!
