El Diablo or “The Devil” in Spanish was one of the members killed in David Ayer’s 2016 released movie Suicide Squad. Being a spectacular failure, the movie was hailed as one of the cringiest movies to date, and in his defense, Ayer claimed that this wasn’t his movie.
Stating that the movie released in 2016 was the ‘studio version’ of his cut, director David Ayer talked about his famous Ayer Cut. Answering a question from his fan, Ayer took to his social media to reveal that he made a great movie and not a clown show!
Suicide Squad 2016 Wasn’t David Ayer’s Movie!
In his defense, Ayer has been asked this question multiple times so it did not come as a surprise that the director was a little bit rude in his answer. With Warner Bros. working their magic and changing David Ayer’s vision of Suicide Squad (like they did with another veteran director), the 2016 movie was inevitably trash.
Taking to X (formerly Twitter), David Ayer replied to a fan who asked him what the difference was between the studio version and the unreleased Ayer Cut. Replying begrudgingly, Ayer claimed in his statements that there was a lot of difference between his vision and what was released in 2016.
“Asked and answered. It’s honestly not worth answering again. But here goes – I had a complete Joker arc and character was scary and formidable. Harley had an arc – it was her movie.”
He further continued,
“Diablo lived. Different ending. Enchantress / June had character arcs and made sense. Flag had a real journey. Dead shot and Zoe – more there. Deeper take. While movie was Price’s brilliant score.”
The characters that he mentioned had vastly different arcs in Suicide Squad. Jared Leto’s Joker felt like an extra character while Harley Quinn had a complete arc. El Diablo, who sacrificed himself while killing Enchantress’ brother Incubus, was supposed to live. As if this wasn’t enough, David Ayer boldly claimed that he had actually made a great movie and not a clown show that was released!

David Ayer Made A Great Movie And Not A Clown Show
With the director raging from the inside, David Ayer further revealed that he couldn’t think of a movie that had a bigger difference between the studio cut and the director’s cut. Ayer proudly claimed that his vision was that of a great movie.
“It’s not a matter of a new scene or two. I honestly cannot think of director cut / studio cut with more difference between them. A lot of the popular issues with SS16 are endemic to the studio version. I made a drama not a clown show. I made a great movie.”
Since Zack Snyder’s Justice League was released, fans have been campaigning for the release of the Ayer Cut too but it hasn’t come to pass. The studio version of Suicide Squad received a rating of 5.9/10 on IMDB and 26% on Rotten Tomatoes and is available to stream on Netflix in the U.S.
