Actor and musician David Soul passed away this Thursday at the age of 80, his wife Helen Snell said in a statement.
Soul was well known for his portrayal of Detective Ken “Hutch” Hutchinson in the action television series Starsky and Hutch, which aired on ABC from 1975 to 1979. His natural chemistry with Paul Michael Glaser (detective David Starsky) in many ways set the framework for cop buddy movies and series of the 80s and 90s.
How Did Starsky and Hutch Star David Soul Pass Away?
David Soul has been away from the limelight for nearly a decade, with his last Hollywood appearance coming in Filth (2013), a movie about a corrupt, junkie cop.
Helen Snell, who tied the knot with Chicago-born Soul in 2010, confirmed he was fighting a health battle. Her statement read:
“David Soul – beloved husband, father, grandfather and brother – died yesterday after a valiant battle for life in the loving company of family. He shared many extraordinary gifts in the world as actor, singer, storyteller, creative artist and dear friend. His smile, laughter and passion for life will be remembered by the many whose lives he has touched.”
As per the actor’s website, Soul, who married five times, is survived by his current wife, six children from previous marriages, and seven grandchildren.
With his brilliant work as an actor as well as a musician – he recorded five albums – Soul has left a notable mark in the entertainment industry and his talent and blonde 70s appearance would certainly be fondly remembered by fans.

What’s the Net Worth of Actor David Soul?
Soul’s net worth in 2023 was believed to be around $6 million. Since he reached his height of popularity in the 70s, the figure may seem modest to many due to the rise in inflation.
The majority of Soul’s earnings are likely to have come from Starsky and Hutch. In 2004, he reprised his role alongside Glaser in the 2004 remake Starsky & Hutch, which featured Ben Stiller and Owen Wilson in leading roles. Stiller paid tribute to the late actor by reposting a clip from the original series on X.
As a musician, he also saw his singles Don’t Give Up on Us and Silver Lady top the charts in the U.K. Accordingly, it’s fair to assume that this stint must’ve also significantly contributed to his net worth.
A report in MARCA suggests that Soul would have earned a lot more had he not sold his image rights too early, which included royalties for future appearances. He sold off his share for just $100,000.
