DC owns some of the most well-known characters in popular culture, such as superheroes Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman, and supervillains The Joker, Lex Luthor, and Brainiac. So it’s no surprise that they’ve launched a major game featuring all these characters, and that game has proven to be a hit with fans since its release.
The game in question, DC Universe Online, is a massively multiplayer online game, or MMO, in the action genre. Developed by Dimensional Ink Games, it allows players to play with, or against, their favorite DC comic book characters. Recently, the developer announced that DC Universe Online is getting major updates and even current gen releases.
What did the developer have to say about DC Universe Online’s upgrade?
Dimensional Ink Games recently announced that DC Universe Online will get a current gen upgrade on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X in the upcoming holiday season, though there was no mention of the Xbox Series S. Whether this was just an oversight or something isn’t clear right now.

Alongside these releases, Dimensional Ink Games is also working on enhancements in terms of its gameplay and other areas of the game, which will be released over the next few months while some could come out next year. They also reassured fans that they would still be playing on the same servers together with their friends as before and that their achievements/trophies and purchases would not be going anywhere, as long as players used the same account on the PS5 or Xbox Series X.
What is the history of DC Universe Online?
DC Universe Online is a long-running DC game, having launched way back in January 2011 on PC and the PlayStation 3, before making its way across to the PlayStation 4 in November 2013, the Xbox One in April 2016, and then finally the Nintendo Switch in August 2019.

On the gameplay side of things, the game allows players to create a fully customizable, new character and have them join and work with either the DC superheroes or supervillains. The game also features an intricate skill and leveling system, numerous raids, endgame progression, and more. As with any MMO, there are limited-time events as well as missions set in an open world.
