Starting today, fans of Dead by Daylight and the enigmatic film icon Nicholas Cage can finally scratch both itches in one go, as Nicolas Cage plays a fictionalised version of himself – he’s crafting a unique niche doing this – in the murderous asymmetrical video game.

Following on from the huge success of The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent, Nicolas Cage decided the next logical step was to step into the world of gaming. According to Cage at the recent Summer Games Fest, this version of himself is ‘Hollywoodfied’ and he’ll be pulled into the fog after arriving to do a film shoot. Of course chaos ensues.

Dead by Daylight does Cage

After countless awards and over one hundred movies shot across the globe, Nicolas Cage had seen it all and done it all – or so he thought. While on set filming the role of a lifetime, his performance summoned The Entity, a malevolent being of incomprehensible power. The actor soon found himself cast in otherworldly Fog, forced to survive a host of terrifying Killers deadlier than even the most scathing film critic.”

For those few not aware, Dead by Daylight is an asymmetrical multiplayer game where players are either a killer trying to murder the survivors, or a survivor trying to escape a murderer by any means necessary.  For a purely multiplayer game to still be going strong seven years after release is quite a feat, and one developer/publisher Behaviour Interactive will be hoping they can replicate it with their latest release, Meet Your Maker.

Dead By Daylight’s Previous Crossovers

This isn’t the first time Dead by Daylight has had a crossover, with various horror franchises getting the Dead by Daylight treatment, including Scream, Saw, and more. However, this is the first time we’ve seen a celebrity take on a fictionalized persona of themselves in a game.

Playing as Nicolas Cage will bring a different type of gameplay, with Behaviour detailing three new and unique perks to the character.

  • With Dramaturgy, players will allow their instincts to take over during moments of heightened intensity. They might not be able to predict the outcome, but that’s what makes it so thrilling, isn’t it?
  • Every actor needs a Scene Partner. When using this Perk, staring at the Killer will grant players a deeper insight into their process, allowing them to better anticipate their next move.
  • Finally – a Plot Twist in the third act can really breathe new life into film and Trial alike. Players will use their second-to-none acting ability to get deeper into character than ever before, making a bold decision that’s as risky as it is rewarding.

When discussing Cage’s upcoming starring role in Dead by Daylight, Mathieu Côté, Behaviour Interactive’s Head of Partnerships had this to say.

“To say we are thrilled to have Nicolas Cage join the gaming world for the first time with Dead by Daylight is an understatement. Mr. Cage recorded all his voice lines and was involved every step of the way; his dedication to his craft and professionalism is unmatched. We feel very privileged to have him and to our players: you’re in for a treat!”

Nicolas Cage is well known for being a character actor that is as zany and over-the-top as he is deep and sombre, with a wide acting range. For every Face Off you have City of Angels, and for every Next you have Leaving Las Vegas, so it’s fair to say he’s capable of getting involved in the digital world of video gaming now, and with high praise indeed it’ll be good to see this being another stone in Nicolas Cage’s acting resurgence.
