Ryan Reynolds’s Deadpool 3 has been a pot of numerous easter eggs and surprises. Ever since the trailer was released just mere days ago, it has generated numerous rumors, fan theories, and rumored casting. With the existence of the multiverse established in Deadpool mythos as well, Marvel fans have been sincerely hoping that the movie brings in numerous characters- both new and old ones.
While fans anticipate the potential return of the original Avengers in some form or the other, seeing the trailer’s nod to Earth’s mightiest heroes, many also anticipate that finally, we will get to hear about Henry Cavill’s potential casting as Captain Britain. While this is just a theory and speculation, the backstory to it actually makes it make sense.
How Deadpool 3 Can Confirm Henry Cavill’s Casting As Captain Britain
For years, Marvel fans have been desperate to have the former DC star Henry Cavill lead one or the other character in the huge Marvel Cinematic Universe. While there are multiple roles that the brilliant actor can portray, Captain Britain seems to be the obvious choice according to the fans (see Comic Book and MovieWeb). While there hasn’t been any confirmation, as per Captain Britain’s backstory and comic book history, Deadpool 3 can become the perfect opportunity to confirm his casting.
Captain Britain aka Brian Braddock is part of the larger Captain Britain Corps, an extremely powerful multiverse force dedicated to protecting the omniverse by preventing incursions and other dangerous events. Also part of Excalibur, a British version of the Avengers, Captain Britain is an extremely powerful character powered by interdimensional energy around the British Isles of each reality.
Deadpool 3’s trailer already showcases time travel and the multiverse unleashed along with the presence of the TVA. Also teasing its connectedness with the upcoming Secret Wars events, the movie can effectively introduce the multiversal entity that is Captain Britain. This would not only align with the exemplary character’s comic book origins but it will also serve as a seamless transition into the larger narrative landscape being woven by Marvel Studios.
Why Marvel Can Introduce Henry Cavill’s Captain Britain Before Secret Wars
The Secret Wars event of Marvel is a major crossover event, occurring multiple times through different storylines in the comic books. As Marvel is all set to either adapt or bring its own version of the event on the big screen, Deadpool 3 appears to be the perfect choice to introduce Henry Cavill’s version of Captain Britain.
While the Captain Britain Corps has not yet been part of the Secret Wars event directly, in the comics during the Incursions started, they were sent to investigate. However, one thing led to another, and most of them were destroyed while Brian Braddock of Earth-616 escaped (see Marvel Fandom Wiki).
With incursions already confirmed in the MCU, it would be the perfect chance to introduce Cavill as Captain Britain from Earth-616. The studio can further take help from this and potentially base the Secret Wars event on the destruction of the Captain Britain Corps.
Furthermore, after already teasing the potential establishment of Excalibur in Secret Invasion, when G’iah becomes involved with Sonya Falsworth (an important MI6 Operative), Deadpool 3 can effectively introduce the character and also bring about the highly anticipated team.
As the speculation, theories, and rumors rage on, Deadpool 3 will not arrive till July 26, 2024.
