Deadpool 3 will be directed by Shawn Levy, who has worked with both Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman before. He worked with Jackman on Real Steel and with Reynolds on Free Guy and The Adam Project. He is reuniting with the two together in Deadpool 3. Levy expressed his excitement and passion regarding the project recently in an interview with Collider. He also addressed the exciting possibilities of having both Deadpool and Wolverine in the third installment. He told Collider,

“You have two major movie stars together in a movie playing their most iconic signature roles – that is director heaven. So the story, the tone, the movie itself leans into that gift of having Deadpool and Wolverine co-starring in a movie for the first time. So, we’re definitely not running away from that.”

The film is currently not in production due to the ongoing Hollywood strikes. In the same interview, Levy also expressed his desire for the studios to reach a fair deal with the writers and actors soon so that they could start working on the film once again. While he revealed that the production was halfway complete, there would be a significant amount of time needed for the implementation of VFX and special effects for the film.

The film is currently slated for a release on May 3, 2024. While major releases that were slated for this year were postponed to 2024, Deadpool 3 might also fall into that category as major portions of its production are left and there is no imminent end seen for the strikes. Audiences have to wait and see whether the film can stick to its release date or decide to move a little further in 2024.
