Deadpool 3: Tom Holland’s Spider-Man Can Play a Crucial Role in Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman’s MCU Debut Movie

Deadpool might be teaming up Wolverine, but there is no reason the characters can't be joined by Spider-Man too.

Deadpool 3 has teased many things leading up to its first teaser, which is expected to drop during the Superbowl. There have been teases that could potentially introduce Dogpool, rumors about the involvement of the X-Men, and a very, very public confirmation of Hugh Jackman’s Wolverine being part of the project, including how the character would look in a comic-accurate suit.

Among the many things that have been teased for the movie, is a logo that is yet to be officially revealed, but was sported by Kevin Feige during an awards function. While it might look like a clever interpretation of the two characters’ superhero costumes, the logo is reminiscent of another comic run involving the titular mutant and another hero: Spider-Man.

Spider-Man/Deadpool was a comic series that began its run in 2016. Over 50 odd issues, Wade Wilson found himself teaming up with Spider-Man for a host of adventures, while he had been hired to kill the character, to begin with. The logo for this run of comics features something very similar to the one that was sported by Kevin Feige on his cap. It is half of Spider-Man’s logo, and half of Deadpool’s logo, very similar to the Wolverine, Deadpool amalgamation that was spotted on Kevin Feige’s hat.

Based on this, and the fact that there will be an appearance from Dogpool, it can be assumed that there are two principal storylines that Deadpool could be basing itself on Spider-Man/Deadpool and Deadpool Kills Deadpool. In the latter storyline, Wade travels through the multiverse to stop an evil version of himself, while the ensuing battle takes out every Deadpool in the multiverse. This is also corroborated by the fact that Jennifer Garner’s Elektra is also allegedly stated to appear in the film, cementing that there will be at least some multiversal travel.

So, the proposed storyline could be thus: Wade Wilson gets hired to kill Wolverine, who has been assigned by the Professor to look into the incursions that have been popping up (perhaps a direct consequence of Doctor Strange’s detour into Earth 838 or Monica Rambeau’s existence the universe we saw at the end of The Marvels). While Deadpool faces off against old and new villains of the X-Men, he and Logan develop their friendship, before eventually ending up on Earth 199999, where the Avengers could come to talk to these new entrants into the universe, leading directly into Captain America: Brave New World, or Thunderbolts.

This could also explain the Sabretooth leak

Sabretooth

Both versions of Sabretooth, one that was introduced in X-Men, and the one that was introduced in X-Men Origins: Wolverine, are canonically dead in the films. However, the leaked photos from the set of Deadpool 3 categorically point towards this version of the character being the same that was introduced in X-Men, meaning that villains dead and alive are all fair game for the story, pointing towards yet another similarity with 2016’s Spider-Man/Deadpool comics run.

However, there is another character who could also influence the plot of the story: Spider-Man himself. Rumors have been flying about the official title of the film, which is expected to be “Deadpool and Friend(s)”. Colossus, Negasonic Teenage Warhead, and Yukio are already members of the mutant family that fit this title, but what could tie this story to become a multiversal entry is to showcase Spider-Man’s friendship with Wade Wilson.

While the Merc with a Mouth and Spider-Man might not see eye to eye, Spider-Man could end up helping Wolverine and Deadpool in the mainline MCU timeline (perhaps even switch bodies with Wolverine, if the Cassandra Nova rumors are true). Spider-Man could be the key to making the friendship between Wolverine and Wade stronger, but could also be their guide to the 199999 Earth, having had his multiversal adventures with immigrants from other universes. And with Doctor Strange away and Wanda Maximoff MIA, who else would be perfect for the job?
