However, thanks to Marvel Studios’ decision to release the first trailer of Ryan Reynolds’ Deadpool 3 during Super Bowl LVIII, the majority of discourses on social media platforms on Monday morning are concerning the MCU title instead of Patrick Mahomes’ legendary exploits.

Every sequence in Deadpool & Wolverine’s trailer is being analyzed carefully by eagle-eyed Marvel fans. Interestingly, one such sequence suggests Jonathan Majors nearly featured in the third installment of Deadpool.

Deadpool 3 Trailer Shows Jonathan Majors Was Close to Featuring in Ryan Reynolds’ Movie

In recent years, Marvel Studios spent a lot of resources in building Jonathan Majors as the next big figure in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The actor has featured as He Who Remains in Loki and his variant Kang the Conqueror in Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania.

Avengers: The Kang Dynasty is another high-profile project on Marvel’s slate which revolves around Majors’ character.

However, the 34-year-old has been shown the exit door by the studio following his conviction for assault and harassment. Needless to say, this has forced Marvel to alter several of their storylines.

The trailer of Ryan Reynolds‘ forthcoming film has confirmed Marvel is set for another multiversal adventure. Wade Wilson is shown to be captured by the Time Variance Authority in Deadpool & Wolverine for a mission. This is a bit similar to the plot of Disney+ series Loki.

The connection between the two is further strengthened by the appearance of Alioth in the trailer. The trans-temporal entity was weaponized by He Who Remains during the Multiversal War.

Before Majors was dropped by Marvel Studios, he was rumored to feature in Deadpool 3. The presence of Alioth all but confirms there were indeed plans for the actor to be part of this MCU story as well – only for his alleged antics to force Kevin Feige to change his plans for Deadpool’s debut stint in the franchise.

Colman Domingo Reacts to Rumors of Him Replacing Jonathan Majors in MCU

As the trailer and the new title suggest, Deadpool & Wolverine is going to revolve around Wade Wilson and Hugh Jackman’s Logan. As such, even if there were truly any plans for Majors to be part of this film, it would’ve been easy for Marvel Studios to remove him without impacting Reynolds’ film too much.

The same can’t be said about Avengers: The Kang Dynasty. Accordingly, Feige must find Majors’ replacement as soon as possible. In recent weeks, Colman Domingo’s name has been heavily linked with the role, so much so that the Oscar-nominated actor had to share his thoughts on the possibility. He told Entertainment Tonight:

“I don’t know, I’m always looking at what I have to do right now… I know there’s talk and conversations around, and I don’t know how much is true. I don’t even get that from my team, I can’t tell if it’s true or not. The fans are passionate. Somehow my name is out there in the world [and] I like the idea of just having your name called and someone speaking lovingly and kindly about something is a beautiful thing.”

As far as the villain of the Reynolds starrer is concerned, the trailer introduced Cassandra Nova, a powerful psychic from Marvel’s X-Men comics. The character, who wants to kill Charles Xavier and control the universe, is being played by Emma Corrin. The actress most recently impressed in Lady Chatterley’s Lover.
