The trailer for Deadpool 3, is here and has already been setting high expectations among the fans. And with the addition of an actor like Macfadyen to the ensemble cast, the expectations and anticipation are over the wall now. Seemingly starring as a Mobius-like character, here is all that you need to know about Macfadyen’s Agent Paradox.

After his award-winning run in the Emmy-winning show Succession, Matthew Macfadyen will be starring as Agent Paradox in the soon-to-be-released Deadpool 3. Among the long list of Marvel characters, Macfadyen’s Paradox seems to be more of a new character debuting exclusively in the Marvel Cinematic Universe as a member of the Time Variance Authority, despite his comic book origins.

Starring in the sophisticated English-gentleman-like role, Macfadyen as Agent Paradox can be seen trying to take Ryan Reynolds‘ Deadpool to the other side by pitching him the choice of being a hero among heroes. While we do not know what this other side is or what is Agent Paradox’s aim, we do know that his debut was already on the line if we look at the comic book character he is based upon.

In She-Hulk Vol 2 #3, Mr. Paradox is a presiding judge at the trial of She-Hulk aka Jennifer Walters along with other two judges, Mr. Mobius and Mr. Ouroboros, two characters that already have made their MCU debut. While his ruling nearly leads to the extinction of Walters in the form of punishment for altering the timeline, he meets his end shortly by the hand of a villain Clockwise, leading to the trial’s end.

Just like Marvel did with Mobius and Ouroboros in the MCU, Agent Paradox will also be more of a central figure in the storyline instead of having a short role like his comic-book counterpart Mr. Paradox. While they do share certain similarities, as in their uptight English mannerism and gestures, Agent Paradox seems much more fun.

What is Deadpool and Agent Paradox’s Relationship?

Go back over three years and in the trailer of Loki Season 1, and you might find many similarities with the trailer for Deadpool & Wolverine. Both Loki and Deadpool were picked up by the Time Variance Authority for one reason or another and were handed out to Agent Mobius and Agent Paradox, respectively, to be dealt with.

As well already know Mobius seeks the help of Loki to defeat other Lokis by offering his unique Loki perspective, Agent Paradox has offered Deadpool what seems to be a similar yet grand choice of becoming a hero among heroes. While we don’t know whether Deadpool accepts his offer, other than referring to himself as Marvel Jesus, their apparent bond looks similar to Loki and Mobius’.

Although Agent Paradox does have his comic-book origins traced to Mr. Paradox, it is also possible that Marvel might have adopted or taken inspiration from another comic-book storyline. In Deadpool & Cable: Split Second Infinite comic, Wade Wilson and Cable find themselves stuck in 2050, running into a TVA agent Loop who also turns out to be a variant of Deadpool.

Seeing that Agent Paradox wants Deadpool to be a hero, there is somewhat of a possibility that he might be related to Deadpool or any other character close to him. While these are just speculations and theories, it would be interesting to see if the relationship between Deadpool and Agent Paradox turns out to be like Mobius and Loki. Yet that is highly unlikely as Deadpool can be seen fighting the TVA agents later in the trailer.

Deadpool & Wolverine will be in theatres on July 26, 2024.
