Deadpool & Wolverine is OFFICIALLY in theaters! Which means fans are in for a fun time at the theaters filled with cameos, action and the glorious return of Hugh Jackman as Wolverine. It’s sure to be a significant hit at the box office and works as a perfect introduction of the Fox Marvel characters into the broader MCU.
The Marvel Cinematic Universe popularized the post-credit scene, using them to tease upcoming projects and characters. The Deadpool films followed suit, but tended to use the post-credits as extra runtime to squeeze in some last minute jokes before the screen goes black. So, does Deadpool & Wolverine have a post-credit scene as well? Of course it does, but only one.

Deadpool & Wolverine post-credit scene explained
There is a single post-credit scene at the very tail-end of the ending credits. This may come as a surprise, but the post-credit scene does not hint at the future of the MCU or set up the events of a future Avengers installment. Instead, in typical Deadpool fashion, the scene is played for comedic purposes only.
The hilarious scene is directly linked to one of the films most shocking and hilarious cameo appearances. Don’t forget… this is a MAJOR spoiler for a cameo in the movie, so if you don’t want to know, now is your chance to close your laptop and rush to the cinemas to see if for yourself! Still here? Cool. To explain the post-credits scene, we have to first understand one of the films earlier jokes.
Chris Evans is best known for playing Captain America, the leader of the Avengers, in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. So, when Chris Evans shows up on-screen, fans were likely expecting that he’d be reprising that role; however, they would be incorrect. Before he donned the American suit and wielded his iconic shield he played the role of Johnny Storm in the often maligned Fantastic Four films from 2005 and 2007, respectively. It’s revealed that Chris Evans is in fact reprising THAT role, calling out the famous catch phrase of “Flame on!”
The film also introduces Cassandra Nova, the twin of Professor Charles Xavier, as the film’s primary antagonist. In a hilarious scene, as Wade, Wolverine and The Human Torch (Johnny Storm) are held captive in Cassandra Nova’s lair, Wade showcases why he’s known as the Merc with a Mouth, and begins a fast paced, profanity riddled rant to Cassandra detailing all of the horrible things that Johnny had allegedly said about her prior to arriving at her location. Johnny Storm, understanding how powerful and dangerous Nova is, frantically insists that he said no such things and that Deadpool is lying. Which, let’s be honest, is pretty believable. Wolverine weighs in, urging Deadpool to shut his mouth, but he continues.
In response, Cassandra Nova kills Johnny Storm in gruesome fashion, using her powers to rip the skin and flesh from his bones as is entrails pour out onto the ground. Wolverine scolds Deadpool for getting Johnny killed. It’s a gory scene played for big laughs and it works. In the post credits, Deadpool appears, speaking directly to the audience and breaking the fourth wall. It’s here that he reveals that he has the video evidence to prove he was in the right all along.
In the CC-TV footage we see Chris Evan’s Johnny Storm, held captive and being transported to Cassandra Nova’s lair, spewing every line of insult word-for-word that Deadpool had claimed he’d said. Prior to this it’s suggested that Deadpool had made everything up. It’s a brilliant use of a post-credit that will surely deviate from audience expectations while staying true to Deadpool as a character.
It should be noted, that this was the only post-credit scene presented in my early-access critics screening, and it possible that an additional post-credit scene will be included in the theatrical release; however, that seems unlikely.
