Fans of both directors are now clamoring for more information on this exciting collaboration. Many fans have begun to speculate on what game this collaboration could relate to, with the consensus generally being that it is most likely for On the Beach.

This would not be the first time the two industry legends have collaborated. In the first Death Stranding game, players can communicate with the hologram of an NPC bearing Lake’s likeness. It is a fun easter egg in the game’s Central region, with Lake portraying a character referred to as “The Veteran Porter.”

Additionally, Kojima made a cameo appearance in 2019’s Control, in a PlayStation 4-exclusive mission titled “Dr. Yoshimi Tokui’s Guided Imagery Experience.” This mission was made available to buyers of the game’s season pass on the PS4, and had players interacting with a Japanese scientist named Dr. Yoshimi Tokui, voiced by Kojima.

The two famed developers have seemingly maintained a close relationship for some time, with both proudly supporting one another’s works. Kojima’s most recent game featured a plethora of cameos, including Geoff Keighley, Junji Ito, and even Edgar Wright, director of films such as Shaun of the Dead, Scott Pilgrim vs. the World, and Baby Driver

Both developers will remain incredibly busy for some time. While Kojima Productions remains hard at work on On the Beach for PlayStation and OD for Xbox, the studio is also working on another mysterious PlayStation title currently known only as Physint, which will return to Kojima’s espionage roots.

Meanwhile, Lake’s beloved studio has quite a few irons in the fire. Following last year’s Alan Wake II becoming Remedy’s fastest-selling title ever, the studio still has two upcoming expansions in the works for the game: Night Springs and Lake House. Neither expansion has a release date at this time.

Additionally, after recently gaining all publishing rights to the Control series, the studio has Control 2 in the works alongside a multiplayer spinoff game codenamed Condor. On top of all of this, Remedy is also deep into production of a combined remake of the first two Max Payne games, with Rockstar Games publishing.

Lastly, there is the project codenamed Kestrel (formerly Vanguard) which is a multiplayer title published by Tencent, though it has seen several restarts in development and is likely still a good while out.
