The film promises to delve into the mysteries surrounding the apocalyptic event called the “Death Stranding”, which blurred the lines between life and death, and brought forth nightmarish creatures into a world on the brink of collapse.

Kojima also praised A24 saying that the films the studio develops are of high quality and have inspired some of his works as well. He mentioned that their “innovative approach” aligns with Kojima Productions and thus they are making the movie together. Kojima stated:

A24 was born into this world about 10 years ago, their presence is singular within the industry, they are like no other. The films they are delivering to the world are high in quality and very innovative. I have been attracted to their creations and they have even inspired my own work. Their innovative approach to storytelling aligns with what Kojima Productions has been doing for the last 8 years. Now, we are making a Death Stranding movie together.

He also stated his reasons for choosing the studio to work on the film saying:

There are a lot of “game adaptation films” out there but what we are creating is not just a direct translation of the game. The intention is that our audience will not only be fans of the games, but our film will be for anyone who loves cinema. We are creating a Death Stranding universe that has never been seen before, achievable only through the medium of film, it will be born.

However, no other details about the movie including casting or who will be directing the film have been announced as of now. Death Stranding game launched in 2019 and is directed by Hideo Kojima. The game starred some of the best A-list actors; Norman Reedus, Mads Mikkelsen, Guillermo del Toro, Margaret Qualley, and Lea Seydoux.

The story of the game is set in the apocalyptic United States where a cataclysmic event has taken place. The game received a great reception from fans and critics alike and has sold over 16 million copies across platforms. Kojima also confirmed that the sequel of the game is under development at The Game Awards 2022.
