But they might have to leave the first place for another fan-favorite manga, which has been headlining the internet since mid-2023.

Kagurabachi’s rise to fame has been exceptional. According to Manga Plus, the first few chapters of the manga were enough to help it enter the list of top ten most-read manga. While most people thought it to be a short-lived success, Kagurabachi proved them wrong and is enjoying a great run. There is also a rumor that it might get an anime adaptation soon.

Kagurabachi follows the story of a young swordsmith, Chihiro Rokuhiro, who is on a revenge path to find his father’s killers. Takeru Hokazono’s magnum opus had everyone at the edge of their seats upon its release. While most manga fail to live up to the expectations, Kagurabachi exceeded everyone’s expectations and became an internet sensation. It maintained its popularity through the meme community and acts as a threat to other popular new-gen anime.

Currently, Kagurabachi has 41 chapters, with the latest one being released on July 14, 2024. The minimum requirement for an anime adaptation of a manga is a hundred chapters. But reports suggest that Shueisha has already filed for trademark documents for Takeru Hokazono’s magnum opus. One of the crucial aspects of the trademark documents is that they contain the right to ‘Animation Production,’ which indicates that the fans might get an anime adaptation of the popular manga.

Several social media handles have hinted towards the anime adaptation of Kagurabachi. The manga’s biggest achievement is that it was recommended by Masashi Kishimoto. Even though getting an official confirmation, it is being compared to the likes of One Piece. Its massive popularity might make the new-gen anime a bit nervous.

Kagurabachi Is Not The Only One Under Shueisha’s Trademark Document

Kagurabachi’s readers have only increased since its first chapter. It broke several records upon its release. While the fans might get excited upon hearing about the trademark, it is nothing new for Shueisha. Shueisha has a habit of filing for trademark. Previously, it filed a trademark document for Kaiju No. 8. Currently, SAKAMOTO DAYS and Dandadan fall under that category. The latter is scheduled to release in the coming fall.

Even though Kagurabachi has become an internet sensation, there is more to it than just memes. Due to its intriguing plot and character development, readers keep coming back to it. For now, there is no news about it getting an anime adaptation. Also, it is yet to reach 100 chapters. It might take some time before Chihiro Rokuhiro makes his anime debut. Till then, Tanjiro and Yuji can enjoy all the fame.

Kagurabachi is available on Viz Media.
